Duratex vs. Line-X (again).

Ok, so Mythbusters did some tests of Line-X, and the stuff stands up pretty darn well. Like.... to C4.

What piqued my interest is that the Line-X installer referred to it as an elastometric product. IIRC, that's what Duratex is as well... and I know my Duratexed cabs aren't going to stand up to a C4 blast.

So... what's the difference? A buddy of mine does Line-X on his cabs, and I bought one of his wedges (cabinet builder installed the baffle upside down, so I got it for a song) and the Line-X is definently superior in hardness and durability to the Duratex, but the Duratex on my cabs is a thinner coat.... if it was built up would it be the same durability? Is the cost worth it?

I just finished the episode. (with some skimming) and that bedliner is really impressive. I wonder how many coats they applied for the wall experiment.

I think they said 1/8". That's a standard application, I believe.

My T48's are Line-X'ed....it was a very expensive venture, but worth EVERY penny. It is applied with two coats...a smooth one that is just over 1/16 of an inch and then they do a splatter coat that is also a 1/16 of an inch. Basically, its a molten plastic and as durable as you can get. For my tops, DuraTex is plenty good but for my subs that get tossed around Line-X is bullet proof.

I did see that MythBuster episode, I was going to post here about it, but forgot to. I'm pretty impressed by the C4 blast protection, not like your cab ever see that pressure. It's too expensive....

Can you give us a rough idea what it costs to get a cab line-x'ed?
