Home theater build - THTLP, TLAH, SLA-Curved

#1 Post by whipdancer »

I'm part way into building a full set of speakers for my media room. Since I already have pretty decent speakers, I decided to start with what I was missing - a subwoofer. Here is some partial coverage on the build of my THTLP.

Slideshow can be seen here...

Here are some shots of it finished in the media room - I'm building a box for the amp that will go somewhere...
It fits perfectly below the screen, firing into the corner.

Panel 2, I think...

A little further along...

This is my work area...

And just for fun, this is how I got the wood home...

I've started on my SLA curved and will add those pics this weekend.

looking forward to the curved center. I'm studying on that as my next project. Not to sure about my crossover skills.

I'm actually working with 2 different sets of speakers for my speakers. I'm using the buyout Sony's and buyout JVC 3x5 from last year. Here is a look at my progress so far with the JVC's.

I should be able to make some progress this week - hopefully will get everything actually cut out.

Well, after much experimentation, I've come to the conclusion that the JVC 3X5 shape is not something I will be able to make look good. I'm too deficient in woodworking skills (currently). I'll put those to the side and get busy with the Sony buyouts, instead!

You have my attention. Let me count them (40ish) and I'll let you know exactly how many I have.

Ok, finally got my curved center channel done.

Now I need to mount it ABOVE my screen (the space below is taken up by my THT-LP).

Any thoughts on how I could do that?

Thanks!

Whip, I am going through the same thing. What I think I will end up doing is putting a single bolt through the center of each end of the center channel from the inside of the cab and the threaded end sticking out. Then I will use nice "L" brackets from the ceiling with the bolts going through them with nuts on the outside. That way I can angle the speaker how I like then tighten the nuts to hold it in place. Simple and effective.
2 THTs, 2 TLAH, SLA curved, 1 8-AT, 1 AT JBL 1002D, 4 Otop12s, Jack 12, TT with Eminence 10", 2 SLAs, 1 T30 slim, 2 T30s (2-10" each), SLA Pros, TrT.

I googled Skyhook - found a projector mounting system that seems to be sold only in Australia. Am I not looking hard enough?

That's an interesting idea. I think I'll see what I can come up with along those lines.

You get skyhooks from the same place that you get shore line. :loler:

Weak attempts at humor aside just hang it, with screw eyes and wire, being sure to drive the screw eyes into joists.
