Hey,

You all got me thinking about my Behringer mixer...

I'm thinking about this one as a replacement:

Thoughts or comments? Do you think I'll be able to hear a difference? What got me really thinking was that my local music store commented that the A&H's sounded *much* better than others in their inventory (Peavey, Mackie, Behringer). I figured there may be a sonic difference between this one and my current Behringer. As an analogy, I used to think that a guitar was a guitar, until I played a nice Strat...incredible difference. The only mixers I've *ever* used have been Mackies (original CR1604 from early 1990s) and Behringers.

I've used both. The yamaha can take a bit more level, and the compressors are decent. As for perceptile sonic quality at reasonable gain levels... not so much. If you went up to A&H, then you might get something.

I've used a lot of Behringer mixers, and I have no problems with them.
Recently, I upgraded a customer's system by swapping out their Behringer mixer for an A&H MixWiz.
Very noticeable difference.
I really didn't think I would hear a difference, but I did, and it was significant.

If you are going analog only have look at these, I have used them in the past and they proved to be very solid.

As long as I have been around pro-audio I have never worked with much Yamaha equipment, people swear by it though.

I have an analog 16 ch yamaha. Night and day from any behringer I've ever had. Would like to pick up a mix wiz someday though...

Ditto on the MG166cx - great little board. That's what I use for my band.

I want to check out one of the Yammy boards, but havent had the chance yet.

I recently got an A&H mixwiz version 2 and it is really sweet. Over on gearslutz.com a guy did a comparison with the MixWiz, a mackie 1604 (which I upgraded from), and a mackie onyx I believe, and the difference was pretty dramatic to me. The A&H sounded so much more open and real with an acoustic guitar clip.

I think you will be able to notice the difference with the upgrade.

I'm jealous. I need to save up for a better mixer. This 6 channel Behringer isn't gonna cut it. I'm thinking of picking up a Yamaha MG206 when I have more disposable income.

I have the 124 installed in my rack that I use at 95% of my gigs. I used to have a 166, but sold it after I got the 01V.

I've used the 01V at 2 gigs... not exactly the best ROI yet.

I've had quite a few mixers over the years. Behringer, Mackie, A&H, Alesis, Vestax, Rolls. I've stuck with Yamahas for the last 3 years and couldn't be more pleased with them. You'll be happy with it, I'm sure. Especially if you got it at Sweetwater.

I had to cancel my order...tire emergency and one had to be replaced...$200...poof! but at least the ride has safe tires...can't skimp on that.

Anyway...I'll have something to look forward to later. I'll still be going with the Yamaha.

I do have a question though...how are the built in effects on those? I usually use only three effects for my own vocals...hall, room and short delay. From what I can tell, there's no short delay on it...like 50 ms or so. I'm also suspect of any effects that include "karaoke".

I was going with the Yamaha without effects and compression only, but the onboard would be handy. Are those worth it, or should I stick with an outboard Lexicon MPX 100 http://www.sixstardj.com/leprompx110d.html that I already have. I'd have MIDI control over it, which would be very nice.

The onboard effects won't have the studio quality of the Lexicon, but for live use you don't need it.

That's actually one of the better sounding delays...... I thought about painting over the name though....
