I am about to embark on building some (2 or 4, waiting on a decision) Tubas that will have Kappalites. It has been suggested that these units be self powered. Personally I am not a fan of self powered having had them die (Makies and RCF) in the middle of events. I have looked at Ice Power and I have hit upon this company and would like some input. I like the idea of their Cobramote control system; however, I am not at all familiar with the company or their product. On a side note I will be coating these cabs (I hope, I hope, I hope) with LineX bed coating on baltic birch plywood. Look at the link and share your thoughts. Thanks a bunch.

Forget the self-powered route. Those amps you are looking at are really expensive. Check out Crown, QSC, or even Behringer.

Baltic Birch is a good choice, but instead of LineX (which is great on my truck), use Duratex - cheaper and easier to apply, recoat, etc.

Skim over this one for reasons not to use truck bed liner. By the way over 6 months later and sitting in a van in the sun and my van still smells like chemicals.

Digmoda. Appears to be about the same amplifiers. Has user configurable software. Same pricing range.

Thanks for the response and I agree about the self powered route as I have been "forced" to use them in the past but, the client is convinced I have used pretty much every amp under the sun (even have a 79 manufactured Peavy in storage...needs a little tlc) the only manufacturers I have not used is Lab Gruppen and Funk1. I am a fan of Carvin and have used them for years. And as for the bed liner, does your van smell because of the fresh liner or because of the products that the liner was used on. Thanks again. FYI these are going to be rave rigs and I hope to get the client interested in DR tops.

IMVHO, don't use on-board amps. You posted your own reasoning why.

Even if you build 4 subs, you can run them all from a single, 2 Ohm stable amp channel, in an emergency. You can't do this, even with the Digmoda amps, as they are not 2 Ohm stable. Stick with a 2 channel, rack-mountable amp. The Peavey IPR series, the Crown XTi, I-Tech & XLS, and QSC PLX series are all proven, lightweight amps.

Build 4 DR280, and 2 Tuba 60. This is a great "rave" rig for 500-800 indoors.
