The 6000watt DSP Royal Rumble???

#1 Post by Chris Betancourt »

Just to start a thead to keep post of everyone's opinion on the three DSP amps that are within budget.
This would be a test to the finnish:
Crown XTI6002
Peavey IPR DSP 6000
Behringer iNuke NU6000 DSP

My likes are XTI's Software really cool and power rating that is mentioned is quite good from personal experience. But would be a hit if it had the MaxxBass that peavey has. Ohh and you def. need the laptop to set.
I like Peavey's light weight 7lbs. and heard good reviews on the power side BUT NO SOFTWARE!!!! to set with laptop. :( with this would make it a winner for me. The lcd is not to my liking "cheapo".
Behringer has a great software I was playing with it last night looks really nice and clean and easy to work with. Power for what I see is gonna be lacking bigtime. A friend of mine ordered a couple lets see how it runs. I'll post later on this.
Throw in your personal likings guys.....

Early adopters of the Behringer unit (here and otherwise) are reporting just what you fear.. lack of power. I bought into the Peavey IPR line, and I'm quite satisfied with them.

Something I found during my search was a spec that never gets touted much, but seems to be far better connected to how much power an amp has is "Voltage Gain." I can't find this spec anywhere on the Behringer unit. They publish it for the EP line... perhaps it's coming on the iNuke series... but it's suspect.

The IPR6000 number is 40db, the XTI6000 is 37.1db... this seems to indicate the Peavey goes 3db louder. Maybe I don't understand it correctly... but I looked up this spec on several amps I have (various makes and models) and then tested them by pushing 1k to clip... the voltages matched up pretty well with this spec (after doing some math, of course). This is why I ended up (very happily) with the IPRs.
99% of the time, things that aren't already being done aren't being done because they don't work. The other 1% is split evenly between fools and geniuses.

Check the specs. Only the smallest in the IPR line actually hit that 7lb mark. They quickly jump to double that which is still nothing to scoff at in keeping the rack light.

Reviewing the specs on the IPR line it comes out as: (used the heaviest published weights)
  • IPR 6000: 13.2 lbs
  • IPR 4500: 13.2 lbs
  • IPR 3000: 7.9 lbs
  • IPR 1600: 7.1 lbs
Good thing you mentioned that because the product pages still list the weights around 7lbs but the spec sheets are different. :noob: If someone that owns the heavy 13 pounder would verify... I could live with the weight, better to have a couple of 13lb amps than the 50lb ones I lug around now.

How much power are these using? I've looked at the specs on the Peavey site and all of the IPR pictures show a rating of 400W @ 120V and the spec sheet for the IPR 6000 at 4 ohms is listing between 11 and 21 Amps. Anyone know what these are really using? I would like to know so that I can be realistic on how many plugins I need when I replace my amps this winter.
