Carvin DCM3800L

#1 Post by Spoon »

Just picked up one of these amps to take over the sub duties. http://www.carvinguitars.com/products/s ... t=DCM3800L
Used it at an outdoor show last Saturday and was quite impressed. I used 4 T39's (3012LF). 2 per side. Had the limiter set at 53-54V. It just idled all night, while pounding the snot outa the subs. In the past I was running all four off a EP2500, all from 1 channel. Pulling about 2.5 ohm. I know it's been told many times here about running an amp this low. Although I never had a problem (other than some clipping) I recently read an article that stated even though your power goes up (with lower ohms) after going below 3 ohms the current is not constant. Now I run the OT12's two per side on a EP2500 also. Anyhow, the Carvin made a good first impression. Light weight, powerful, 3 yr warranty, and on sale right now. Really happy I bought one.
Built:
2 OT12's 2512 CD
2 OT12's 2512 Melded Array
4 Titan 39's 30" 3012LF
4 Titan 39's 20" 3012LF
6 Wedgehorn 8's
1 Wedgehorn10
2 AutoTuba's 18" w/MCM 8"

Thanks for the great review. Carvin amp's have been on my "short" list based on their output (hopefully) and price. I have had horrible problems with QSC in the past but I have been told they're much better with less issue's. I believe Carvin will be in the top 2.
Please keep us informed of any problems you have in the long term.
