4ohm Jack/DR/Omni as bass cab?

#1 Post by adbass »

Hey Everybody,

I'm looking for a full range speaker cabinet for bass guitar applications and I'm sold on Bills design philosophy and technique.

My question, for Bill or anyone else who may know, is this: Is there a 4ohm version of the Jack, the DR, or the Omni or are they all 8ohm single cabs?

I'm essentially looking for a 4ohm bass guitar cabinet that can accommodate an amplifier that's 24" wide and about 12 inches deep.

I'm searching, but if anyone can make a recommendation please chime in.

thanks, Alec

Unless you must have a 4 ohm cab for a tube head that doesn't have an 8 ohm tap forget about 4 ohms.

Hi Bill

That's exactly what I have ... a tube head with only a 4ohm tap.

I'm thinking either a pair of Jack12s or Jack 15s ... ?

Any pairing of 8 ohm drivers will give a 4 ohm load.

Two Jack 112's would be a good system. Two Jack 115's would be good but heavy and overkill.
Omni 10
Omni 10.5
OmniTop 12 x 4
Wedgehorn 8 x 3
XF212
T39 @ 18" x 2
T39 @ 20" x 2
T39 @ 28" x 2
Jack 110 x 5
Jack Lite 12
XF210
XF210 (Slant only, no crossfire)

I ran my SVT (1976 Magnavox) fine on an 8 ohm omni 12. If your sold on 4 ohm use an omni 12 (2x10) or an omni 15 (2x12). I have since "upgraded" to an SVT 3 pro. My back is much more happy, and my live show doesn't know the difference. YMMV.
Builds:
T-39
DR 280
Wedgehorn 8
Omni 12
SLA
TAT
TLAH experimental
