Newbie!
Hey guys,
Might as well introduce my self and stop lurking the forums unnoticed lol. I'm pumped about these speakers and this community. I got the plans for the t48's.
About to begin building a pair of 36" t48's and I can't wait to show them off once they are done! Space is not an issue for me because I am starting my own company this year, I'm going to have a big box truck for transportation and storage so the cool thing is, I can build them as big as I want. My goal is to have 6 of these done by the end of the year. From what I have read there are alot of benefits to building them wider... What are your opinions? The music mostly being played is electro, dubstep, hip hop etc. I'm not to worried about tunes that play below 40 hz because from what I have read making the t48 wider allows for better response, and the more you have the better it all gets as well. Also what kind of wood have you guys used? Bill said Baltic Birch or spruce and pine? Only thing that sucks about the baltic is that it's only in 5 x 5 sheets which would make things over my budget starting out... But if it is truly necessary I can bite the bullet and go for it. Looking forward to hearing from all of you!
Cheers!

Re: Newbie!
Baltic Birch is available in 5x5 and 4x8 in most places. I've bought both. The 5x5 is the cheaper of the two when figuring by the square foot. I'd probably buy enough 4x8s to do the sides and back, then 5x5 for the rest.

Re: Newbie!
Make sure you find a plywood suppler. The average lumber yard or big box store will not have baltic birch. And don't confuse it with birch plywood used for cabinets - not the same stuff.basshead wrote:Thanks for the info... I just have to get my ass to the lumber yard and see whats available.
If you'll put your location in your info, I'm sure someone will be able to give you an idea of where it's available locally.

Re: Newbie!
Seem you've read some stuff
But yeah, with everything you described, it seems you're on the right track. just be careful about those 36inchers VERY big. I know there are two users here running 30" t48's so this might be another option that will also fit your needs. But you are right, the wider, the better so if you're ok with 36" I say build them (and don't forget a review
)
If you want the best there is (since having light weight cabs wont' really be a concern), BB all the way. Straighter, smoother, stronger and just better quality all around.
Good luck on keeping those 3 foot panels squared
(no but really, good luck).

Re: Newbie!
thanks everybody... hey seistres i'm going to have a nice big table saw to do all the cutting so that (fingers crossed) will not be an issue. I'm going to be working on these with my father who is a very skilled carpenter, I do expect bumps in the road along the way but I am hoping for a very smooth build.

Re: Newbie!
Once these are done I plan with going with the dr 250's or 280's for a line array. I would like to have 6 all together, just ordered some awesome stands and truss from global truss systems and definitly want to do some rigging with these beasts. ( the dr's of course lol imagine flying a pair of these t48's lmao not that you would ever want to but it would be pretty funny)

Welcome, I can help if you need plywood source. Mike
Re: Newbie!
I am not sure what kinds of venues you are going to do, but remember that there are a lot of doors in the world that are only 30" wide. You may want to mount the wheels on your T48s on the side so you can fit through whatever door you come across.
Welcome and enjoy!

Re: Newbie!
You may consider a rough mock up of a 36"er too, just to get a good visualization of the size. I'm doing multiple 18's. It's more building and cost, but I need the modularity.

Re: Newbie!
like i said before size isn't a issue... the subs are 2 feet deep so there shouldnt be a problem at all.

Welcome to the forum!
You might consider Auroco for the internals, with BB on the two sides, top, bottom, front and back. This will save a couple of pounds, and cost a bit less. Just remember which panel you are on and when to switch.
