Piezo Sounds Questions

#1 Post by doncolga »

Hey,

I have the Goldwood 1016's and I gave them a listen for the first time last night sending them white noise. The main things I noticed were:

1. They were all pretty much the same volume. Just a few seemed a little quieter, but not too much. None were glaringly out of line.
2. I ran my first one, then subsequent ones, and they all got louder, but when I reversed the polarities, it didn't seem to make much difference on any of them. I had them set really close together side by side on the long dimension.
3. There seemed to be some variation in the frequencies I heard for the white noise I was sending them. That OK?

I hope to get a good bit done on the boxes today as I approach completion, so I just wanted to run this by the group.

Thanks!

Donny

Leland is the expert when it comes to piezos. He just recently posted about this very subject. A quick search should get you there quickly.

3 ranges in piezos. Low, Medium and high. The output volume is about the same, but the sound is distinctly different. I primarily use low and mediums for arrays. Get as much as possible out of them at that 2k range.

But in bigger arrays I will mix in a few of the high ones also.

Hey Leland! Thanks very much. I'm going to do another listen and sort this evening and do the pickin' for the melds.

I just painted my melded array and it seems to be going well. I made a little wad of masking tape and gently pressed into each of the openings so they'd be well covered. One more coat and I'll pull those out. I expect it will look pretty good.

So since the new piezos are really stuck together, can one be fixed if it goes bad?

I think so. I have one to repair after about 4 years of pounding, so I'll let you know.
