Hi! I'm needing an SPL meter that reads higher than 130dB so i can accurately measure hte output from my system.

The one i have is fine up to the high 120s then it starts to read 'over' when it is clearly getting much louder

Im not looking to pay hundreds for a meter just for this purpose though, so if thats the case I'll just settle for what i have or the time being.


you can just see the 'over' in the bottom right of the meters screen.
This was my dually t60 in the corner with a 40Hz tone going to it.

Measure at the middle of the room. If it reads over 115dB you're too damn loud.
Meters that read over 130dB are very rare and very expensive.

If you use RoomEQWizard and an external mic and preamp, you are limited only by the distortion ceiling of the mic. You can calibrate at a lower SPL, then read on up into the sky. The Audix TM1 is rated to 130db at 1%THD, but tops at 140. It's also $300... and they go up fro there. I have a Dayton EMM6 (same as behringer ECM8000) and it goes to 127db... probably a ltittle less max as the Audix, but it's $50.

You can use a decent dynamic mic and go louder, but accuracy in frequency response is limited by the mic. However.... with a 57 or 58 and a cheap USB pre, you can have a PC based SPL meter for under $200.
