Auto Tuba - Does Driver Selection Affect Performance?

#1 Post by zhillsguy »

One of the recommended drivers, the Tang Band 740P, has a higher 12mm x-max vs. 8 mm, and more power handling than the other two models. Will this improve performance enough to justify the extra cost?

Depends on the performance you want. Some have found the MCM to be lacking the hard way. They wanted HEADBANGING bass and popped their poor little MCM's clogs. You don't hear about that very often so ymmv.

Steve's first Autotube we built was extra wide 17 or 18 inch panel with. The MCM we killed in short order I am afraid. We slipped the Tang Band in as the replacement and it filled the extra width in ways the MCM could and DID NOT. We have actually killed 2 or 3 MCMs and only use the Tang Bands now even in the David. Killer speaker and worth the pennies as far as we are concerned.
