Crown Macro-Tech and 2 ohm stability

#1 Post by NCcrashman »

Will the "above" listed amp run stable @ 2 ohm's? When I say "run stable", I mean run @ war volume for an entire show? I always loved these amps. Rock solid!
Thanks in advance,
Patrick

Thanks Bruce. Most power amps claim to "work" on 2 ohms, but no way would I try. The Crown Macro-Tech is suppose to be uber stable and extremly high quality. As stated above, no way would I run a amp under $1000 in 2 ohm's for an entire show. This guy should be fine. I wish I had 4 of them..lol.

There's a lot of names I wouldn't trust either, but Crown ain't one of 'em. I run one of my XLS Drivecores in bridge mode, the other runs 4 ohms on one side and about 2.7 on the other all night long.

You can run any Crown Macro @ war volume @ 2ohms per channel with no problem what so ever. In fact where most amps start to breath heavy at 2oms stereo the Macros will not run into high distortion and will not start having recovery problems due to the supply rails running out of juice. Just make sure you use the right supply of power.

Some people have been known to cut the plugs off the bigger ones and attempt to plug them into a regular 15 amp wall outlet. The MA2400 on up have at least 1 15 amp circuit breaker per side on the amp! There's a reason they put the special plugs on them! Single 15 amp outlets wont cut it with the 2400s on up. A 2400 will need a single 30 if your going to punish it. A 20 will work but you will run the risk of popping the panel breaker if you're gonna run it full bore @ 2ohms stereo!

Yeah for current draw! I use 220V 30amp Twist Lok plugs on mine.

I tap and have my own supply so it doesn't matter for me but I've seen a few with the 20 amp plug cut off and replaced with a 15amp 120V plug! Once I saw one with one of those extension chord plugs you get in the hardware store for lamps! LOL the kind with the cardboard insulator!
