First gig with new components

#1 Post by nastyford77 »

I've been using my Delta15lfa loaded T48 for almost a year, using an amp from a powered sub :cop: I always kept a close eye on the levels, as well as checked the max output. It sounded fine, waaaay louder than the sub I was using. I finally popped the amp, so I picked up an crown xTI2000 last week. I ran sound for a local radio station hip hop dj in a large building. Seriously underpowered, but I was the best they could find without spending big bucks. The dj kept clipping his mixer, and I was up and down on the mains all night. Other than the distortion from clipping, it sounded ok.
Last night I played my residency, a 4 hour set. The dj booth is L shaped, and the only place I can put the T48, kinda creates a bass trap right in the booth. The T48 has always been loud at the booth, but DAYUM... I set the xover with a lp@110hz, 48db/octave; hp@45hz, 24db/octave, both LR. At times I had a hard time breathing, felt like the air was being sucked out of my chest. Even with the lower output of the delta15lfa, it was amazing. The dancefloor had a nice, even coverage of bass. Now for the 3015lf and start shaking the ceiling tiles out.

OK evil I know but very fun. The ones I helped build were all played in a large double classroom at full war volume for a small HS dance. Awesome. The harder he hit it the closer they got to the subs. And apparently most of the time they are such wallflowers.

T48s rule loud. For DJ stuff T36s and T60s rule the bottom.

I almost forgot...
At the beginning of my sets, I play an hour of warm up (country, classic rock...). I normally keep the volume cut back a little, kinda lets the patrons relax, drink, chat. Well, this guy who I had never seen before decided to sit at the table closest to the titan. He kept turning around and listening to the bass, smiling and giving me the thumbs up. When I started my main set, he was still sitting there listening, so I decided to mess with him a little. I dropped Rihanna's "Only Girl" and turned down the sub channel a bit, then engaged the highpass effect on Serato for the build up, cranked the sub channel, and when the bass dropped, released the highpass. He jumped out of the seat, holding his chest. He ran up to me and said he had never heard bass like that before, and I must have a 21" speaker with a couple thousand watts pushing it. I told him it was a single 15 with less than 300 watts. He was kinda taken aback and walked off.

I would have loved to see that. Next time make sure you set up a video camera when you are preparing that trick.
