Latest Jack 12

#1 Post by Harley »

I just finished a J112 for a client which is from the latest plans.

3012HO with 16 melded array piezo ( 2 x 8 ). Single handle, Italian poplar, 15kg ( 34 lbs ), Duratex finish

Image

I played it at a practice just to finalise breaking in.

Now it could have been the bang on the head I got last Saturday when a jig came down off the rafter by accident, but I'd have to rate this just about as nice of a tone as the J110s that I approve of so much.

I didn't have them side by side to compare, but the tone really made me take notice. Everyone else remarked on how nice it sounded as well.

It oozed with warmth and yet had authority and clarity. This cab is for an EUB player and I reckon he'll be a happy camper - hopefully he can post a more meaningful review alongside mine.

This cab sounds better than the older J112's I have hanging around with the second choice driver installed. This is the first time I've had to have a real serious play with one of these as they are normally racing out the door to make my way past deadline promises.

Two of these new J112s together would be a serious gig rig, so I am making some demo ones for myself.

The cabs are within a millimetre of spec. Internal lining was with a UL class F1 fire rating spray booth filter material that my company sells.

Very nice! I need to make myself a bass cab and get back into playing bass. I think J12 would be the choice for me to replace a crappy 4x10.

Always go two with Jacks I reckon. They're light enough to lug around, don't take up much room and stcak well for a gig if you use the chevron corners. Two always seem to sound better than one and of course you always have the volume knob

haha i keep being amazed by the two J12's I just finished and thats even with them 5 ft off the floor on speaker stands. I am doing everything i can to get them into a larger space then my garage to really get the full effect of them. Nice work!

I'd have to say yes at this stage.

I will wait until I have my own demo set and perhaps take 2 J110 and 2 J112 to a gig and use one lot one set and the other lot another and see if I can really tell the difference at a gig.

I reckon just in a room practicing, J110 has a slight upper hand, but I must say I was impressed with the J112 with 3012HO in it - but funnily enough I was expecting a little more bottom end out of the J112.

+1 for the pair
I've had my own O10.5 for a while now. Had to get used to it, but now like it (especially on fretless, they really sing the mwaaaahhhh).

I recently acquired two more O10.5's and brought those to band practice two weeks ago. It has been said so many times here by others, I have now heard it myself. One is nice, two is soooo much better. I find it too cumbersome to always carry two cabs to rehearsal, as I need to walk them a few hundred yards from car to room. But for gigs I'm going to bring the pair from now on. Yes indeed, go with two.

Good review Harley, thanks. Any comments on the tonal qualities of the 3012HO versus a DLII2510?

As mentioned above, I have not run them side by side yet. I'll have to wait no until my demoes are built.

Any plans to build a J115 demo? I'd be very interested in your impressions and whether it improves the bottom end.

Of course, but after the 3 Wedgehorns for our group, 4 T48s, 2 J110s, and 2 J112s for customers, and 2 J112s for me... :wall:

You're probably the only guy who sleeps less than I do.
If it's too loud, you're even older than me! Like me.
