Helpful hints on how to build 'em, and where to get the stuff you need.

What to do with off cuts?

#1 Post by bean438 »

Since I made lots of mistakes I have lots of scraps.
Plus there was lots of waste as I am new and could have laid out panels better than I did.

Yes saving wood is great but what do you save, and what do you chuck?

I am thinking the little circle cut outs from the baffle tweeter holes wont be good for much. Same with the 1" strip weird tlah box/baffle off cuts.

I have 5 botched tlah baffles, drivers cut out. Is is worth trimming what I can?

Do you have any guidelines?

I would hate to throw out what can be used in the future, but I would also hate to hang onto a 1/2" by 2" piece.

My kids take care of all the scrap wood : they glue them, nail them together and paint them. Then they sign it and call it arts.

yup. Its hard to burn nice walnut, cypress and maple scrap but you eventually get to a point you can't use it....
But my pop always says you can use the fire for something... like melting aluminum 'heater box' fins off of a set of headers for a '75 vw bus. Then rigging said headers for obnoxious performance and saving the aluminum scrap 'puddle' for the next casting need.

Plywood scraps smaller than a 6" or so wide get burned.

Hardwood scraps smaller than a few inches get thrown in a box, eventually going to friends to be turned into pens or handles, or cutting boards, or small toy parts.

I have a huge box of scraps right now

my shop is heated with wood.
All scraps get thrown in a large wooden box and burned during the winter months
