Melded array Diffuser

#1 Post by Monomer »

Works like a charm. Never liked the on-axis sound without it.

The tradeoff between loosing a little bit of dispersion for a lot smoother on-axis response is well worth it.

Now to get some spray paint and paint'm black. I must say, the omnitop already looks weird. Even more odd with a peice of pvc floating in the center.

I know what you mean. this was the reason why I had been unhappy with my decision to build four melded arrays and always considered switching to compression drivers. Although it's still a little bright right in the center, it is MUCH better and the dispersion now seems very natural. However, in this case, being more "natural" also involves the highs having a dispersion of close to 180 degress :D

After my first gig with the pvc pipe, the compression drivers are becoming less and less appealing as the piezos do everything I need them to do at a price that is unrivaled. Granted, I will still build a prototype just to do some testing, but now I'm really satisfied with the piezos.

Home depot I think has black 5/8" PVC available. Might be an easy way to do it with minimal finish effort. Of course, it'd be nice to match the black hammered texture I put on the melded arrays themselves.
