Getting Cold in Minnesota Need to finish builds Quickly
Hello All,
Thanks you for all your posts, i have been stalkin' all of your projects, and absorbing information for the past year.
Just thought you all deserved a THANK YOU, for making all the mistakes, asking the questions, and documenting builds. I have been in the sound industry for about 18 years, and I was lookng for an affordable option, and found this site. It confirmed all I knew about Pro sound, and all that I thought was wrong with pro sound.
I had to make sure everything was legit. I have purchased T24 plans. i was in disbelief that a 10" speaker could produce what was being claimed. I did the math, and measurements, and it all sounded correct. I purchased 2 sheet of 1/2" baltic birch, and 2 tubes of PL, and started to build.
It was time consuming, but well worth it. 16" wide T24 was very impressive. Building 7 more as we speak. I know you all will tell me to make them wider for performance, but I need modular.
Didn't believe the Melded Array either. Jack10 plans ordered. Very impressed, coming from a sound technician that will not use anything less than 2" compression drivers in FOH pa speakers.
Sold the last of the 6 Crest CA amplifiers I did own (my back will thank me for this). I was building the PA from the ground up. Mics, then Stands, then Cables, then Yamaha Digital Mixer, 10 channels of IEM, Amps, and then speaker cabinets. Was really saving up for the JBL VRX rig. I was a little shy of the 18k it was going to cost me at dealer cost to purchase them. about $17,800.00 shy to be exact. Haha
Thanks Bill and Friends of Bill. With the 8 Jack 10, and 8 Tuba 24's, and a gang of Digital amplifiers, I will be just fine.

Why so many jacks??? IMO, anymore than four and it makes not sense using jacks anymore.
Built:6 t39, t18, 4 Jack10, 2 autotuba, 2 SLA,2 wedge, 2 TT, 2 Tritrix, curved sla, 2 otop212, 2 SLA pros, Ported 8" sub, 2 ported 210, dual ported 8" sub

+1 ... Jacks sacrifice sensitivity for extension. Generally, you build DRs or OmniTops if you're using subs, Jacks if you're not.SeisTres wrote:Why so many jacks??? IMO, anymore than four and it makes not sense using jacks anymore.
If you're building the Jacks because you do occasional shows where you don't use subs, you might consider OT15s instead. They'll give you very similar low end when needed, but also give you the extra >100hz sensitivity for when you use subs. The greater sensitivity and higher output driver of the OT15 may also allow you to only need six instead of eight.

Thanks for the suggestions. The size is the issue. The DR200 was my first thought, but the size is a bit bigger than i was comfortable with. The OmniTop15, and the OmniTop12 is 29" high. I will take another look at the DR's
Thanks

Re: Getting Cold in Minnesota Need to finish builds Quickly
What do you mean? The DR200 is basically an 18" cube -- it can be made to weigh less than 30 pounds each without too much effort (3/8" ply, neo driver) and less than 25 if you really work at it. And 1 DR200 is about loud as 2 Jack 10s.45psidrummer wrote:Thanks for the suggestions. The size is the issue. The DR200 was my first thought, but the size is a bit bigger than i was comfortable with. By the way, welcome! Where do you live in Minnesota?
Re: Getting Cold in Minnesota Need to finish builds Quickly
I think you're referring to the ot212. But if you if you build a single driver ot12 (ot112), then it's almost the same size as the jack, so if size is the issue, the ot12 should fit the bill. As for going for jacks based on size (don't know if you mean pack space or portability) just remember that once you eq down the jack, you will need TWO jack for ONE dr, not to mention you will also need double the power. The jacks are good but they're not dedicated tops; the other designs are.45psidrummer wrote:Thanks for the suggestions. The size is the issue. I have a church using four Jack 10's and two dual BP102 loaded 24" wide Tuba 24's. They sound great together!
You have any pics?

Yup getting cold in MN it has been snowing friday and Saturday. It is not bad in the garage yet. I have been building both days, with log sleeve sweat shirt, gloves, and stocking hat. I do not like to do wood work with long sleeves, let alone gloves.
