How Long Before Safe Gigging?

#1 Post by doncolga »

Hey,

Once the second side is attached, how long before the sub can gigged with safely? I know PL fully cures in 24 hours, but I may be in a pinch....

Also, for the weather stripping around access panels, should I butt two ends together to form the corners or should they overlap a little?...I'm guessing butt the pieces but I'm concerned about leaks.

Thanks!

Donny

Donny you are gonna want to check that cab for leaks inside and out before you run them with the access covers. I would be more concerned with leaks in the chamber and inside the cabinet from the last panel you installed. Check it good and fix any leaks with PL except for where the driver meets the baffle and for that part you can put some clear silcone.

On a side note, on my last build I quit using speaker gasket to seal the access panel and just used a big bead of silicone instead. NO LEAKS.

Silicone inside a cab delays the process, as it should be fully cured/degassed before sealing the cab, otherwise fumes could damage the driver. I use acrylic caulk if there's any leakage around the driver frame.

Well that will certainly seal the cover but if you ever need to get it off might be a bit of a problem.

Rat fur is the nicest access panel seal imo. Even the closed cell foam seems to want to glue a panel together if it's been together for a long while.

A little off topic but I thought I'd mention it.
Tomorrow I'm going to stop procrastinating - WB

pops right out with a screwdriver and scrapes of easily for reapplication IF you ever need to open it.
