tips

#1 Post by jesuchete »

I have cut down the number of speakers for my system. I had planned on 16 dr300 but now I am working with 8 dr300 and 8 titan 48. What would be the best amps for this setup. I am also looking for a reasonably priced wireless mic for this system.

A set of Crown XTi4000s should do nicley. I use one for each set of 4 cabs (Otop 15s and Titan 48s). If your cabs are single loaded you could put 4 cabs per channel assuming 10 Ohms per cab for Titans. This would place a 2.5 Ohm load on each channel. The amp will produce 1600 watts per channel at 2 Ohms. So you could use 2 to power your 16 cabs. I would suggest that if you do this program the cooling fans in the amps to engage sooner since you will be driving the amps hard. If you have the budget use 4 XTI4000s. I migrated to the Crowns after years of using old school analog class A/B amps. It took some convincing but now that I am using the Crowns I like them. The built-in DSP is very complementary to the needs of a BFM rig. Having presets for HPF and LPF for my tops and bottoms right in the amps is great. I also like the limiters. I have mine set to -3Db. Again a perfect match for my Titans. I also don't miss lugging arround a 500 pound amp rack. The XTi's are much lighter. :cowboy:
