Crown XTi 1000 - upgrade time

#1 Post by bzb »

I've been running the Crown XTi 1000 for almost a year with the Slim T39s and OT12s. I've liked the sound and *loved* the low weight.

I recently completed a 24" T39 3012LF loaded and have used it in about a half dozen gigs. Unfortunately, I've been clipping out the amp as the night progresses - especially when any "booty bass" sets are in session.

I am currently building a 30 incher, but I think I might halt that for a bit and finish out another 24 incher as quick as I can. I have 3 outdoor gigs upcoming and I really wanted to have all four big boys done (along with two more OT12s)... but other time commitments are stalling that. In the meantime, I can probably knock out one more sub... so here's the question: what would you do?

First off, would you keep building the 30 incher? I can take it as the single instead to most of my gigs and get a little more punch than my 24"... Or would you build that second 24 incher just so I can be sure I have a v-plate setup for the outdoor gigs in late September?

Secondly, I'm going to be keeping the XTi1000 for my tops for the large festival rig, running 2-3 OT12/2512 per side. As for the sub amp (which will become the "main" amp in my rack), would you guys go with the 4000 or the 2000, keeping in mind that at the festivals I'll be running 2 3012LF per side?

Budget-wise, it looks like it's only another $100 for a used 4000 over a 2000... but I'll have to be more patient to find one - and who doesn't like instant gratification?

Friend runs 4 OTop15 and 4 T48 each group on an XTI4000 of their own and they are simple fantastic!!! Plus you have overhead for more as your heart/wallet desires. Got to start herding them into groups.

Why not build another 24" version to match your current one then start on 30"ers so you V-=plate them in even stacks??? They are deadly that way!!! And that is a very good thing!!!

OK it's late and I haven't had much sleep due to working so damn much lately... Are you saying he runs 2 on each channel on two XTi 4000s?

Yeah, that's the plan for 4 and stacked center at the end of the stage (which will end up becoming part of the stage, since it's only 36" high, haha). But I just don't have time to get all four done before October - lots of other commitments. The client was happy with my two 13 inchers, if you can believe that, so anything bigger and badder is just icing. I really want the big ones out to impress the crowd and drum up some more business... which always seems to happen, thankfully ;)

I was building the 30" after being so impressed by the 24". I have room to get that second 24 in, but it'll be VERY tight and I'll have to tetris everything in. I could easily just throw the 30" on the side, though - and I'm already happy with a single 24".

Sigh, so many decisions. Someone just make it for me.

Oh i thought you were planning on using both subs at the event, but i think you just want to run the single 30". So if that's the case, and if you have enough time build another 24" and another 30" before the outdoor events, i'd just finish up the 30". But if you don't, then build the 24" so you can have two t39's which you can v plate at the outdoor stuff. I would think that v coupling a pair would be better than going 6" wider on just one out of the pair and not being able to v plate them. HOWEVER, i bet you could v-plate them if you just get a little "cover" to add 6" to where the vplate meets the 24". And even better yet, you could use the 13" in the stack if you have an extra amp channel available ;)

Wow, you're as indecisive as I am ;)

Found a new XTi 4000 for $575 shipped. The ones that sold on CL recently were asking $500 for used ones... lowest I've found 2000 is $400 shipped used.

Hey-

I run 3 T39 on one channel and 2 OT12 on the other channel of an XTI 4k. Works great. You can get them on ebay for 599 direct on ebay.

Too bad you didnt get one last month before bing cashback was over, you could have 8% from bing and 2% from ebay bucks

:(

If you watch you can find a used one sometimes for $500.

Nope...

4 OTop15's on one XTI4000
4 T48's on the other XTI4000.

Probably could use just one but has dreams of making it to 6 & 6 and then onto 8 & 8 which will require both's capabilities.

Yeah, I've seen em on CL from time to time for $500 used. I'm thinking an extra $75 for brand new isn't too bad.

I'm real disappointed in bing, but I'd already maxed out my cashback for the year, anyway ;) We're only talking a difference of under $20 though, so not a huge biggie. My stupid ebay bucks expired... I love how they wait for months to give you them, then they're only valid for a couple weeks.

 can you tell?

And I think that the only reason sine and I have yet to build the whole cd is simply because we spend more time deciding what to build than actually building the things. :fruit:
