Re: dr280 titan 48
One question and one observation....
Why not go all the way and use the 3012HO? If you are going to put that much time and effort in building a cab, why not use the very best compnoents? Especially if there is only one a side.
The GX5 will be fine for one Titan per channel (500 watts at 8 ohms), but will be lacking with two per channel (700 at 4 ohms). If you stick with the 2512s for the DR280s - use one side of the GX5 for the tops (plenty of power for the 2512s) and still have a chnnel left for monitors/back up, etc. If you go with 3012HOs, put one per side. Buy a new amp for the subs.
good luck.

DJ for house an dance.....
Only recommendation might suggest is T60 not T48.
For a rock band the T48 is great but T60 may be your ticket. Tops are a great choice.

Re: dr280 titan 48
The T48 is just fine for Dance/House music, it will go plenty low enough and still allow portability.
I did a house music night for two years in a dance club that essentially had 4 JBL dual 18" bins, trust me when I tell you the low end extension of the T60 is just not needed for your purpose. The T60 is ridiculously large for mobile unless you have a big van and a helper.
Although the GX5 might be a little lacking for four 48's I think it would work in a pinch until you got a larger amp. 4 T48's even at half power would still rock the place.

Frequency analysis graphs say otherwise. LOL, for house and dance, you could build one of the designs on spkearplans and you would actually be fine. Sure there are songs that dip below 40hz, but not many, and for these two particular genres, the kick dominates the track entirely. Unless it's dub or experimental, t48 or t30 will handle almost every other genre of music out there.
Built:6 t39, t18, 4 Jack10, 2 autotuba, 2 SLA,2 wedge, 2 TT, 2 Tritrix, curved sla, 2 otop212, 2 SLA pros, Ported 8" sub, 2 ported 210, dual ported 8" sub

Well would i use the compression drivers aswell? its just they cost nearly double the 2512/melded setupBruce Weldy wrote:One question and one observation....

is it really worth it?
Also is there like a ratio of dr290's now to t48's
and would you suggest building 4 for 2 dr290s?

Re: dr280 titan 48
No, I wouldn't suggest the compression driver for your application...but, the 3012HO would give you more power handling and less chance of blowing a speaker. There are a lot of guys on here who have built them both ways - but it's easier to turn down the 3012 than to wish you had more with the 2512. Certainly your choice.
They'll both probably blow you away....one just a little farther away.

Re: dr280 titan 48
Considering my friends T48's you are probably right. I just had a few things that truly dipped down LOW back a few years ago and if you could not play 30HZ clean you'd miss stuff. Heck even listening to 2 OT15 in an array and 2 T48's still hearing things in songs down low I never heard before.
So I admit not keeping up to everything today on where stuff is at I just know several songs I had that I would throw in those Genre's dropped 30 Hz and less.
But vast majority never heard the parts anyway!!! LOL....
I had a car stereo once that would play bass well and a few BASS tracks that went down to 20HZ, would miss about 3 notes on the album. But missed them it did.
T48's do Rock!!! and they will go down very low and 2 will not hit some of those notes cleanly either. But most things are fantastic. Like I said heard some bass parts I never knew existed today. Kind of funny and cool.

Re: dr280 titan 48
thanks so far.
So now the master plan
2 DR280s 3012HO loaded 22 Melded Tweeter array, Still 500 watt PCB for speaker warehouse i suppose?
2 or 4 T48's 24" wide
Should i run 2 or 4 subs?
and they run a 60 volt signal (450w) if my maths is correct
Also Suggested Amps for these as i plan to upgrade to 4 dr280s and more t48's
Basically i want a high amp that i can run 2 or 4 dr280s on
and a sub amp that i can run 2 or 4 t48s

A 1-to-1 Titan 48 ratio per DR280 would be a recommended minimum. If you can afford it and you have the time, I would shoot for four.matty-smith wrote: Should i run 2 or 4 subs?
