OT12s, T39s, Crown Drivecore Amps - First live gig

#1 Post by Bruce Weldy »

Got a last minute call from Schlitterbahn water park (some of you may have heard of that) on Thursday to play at their beer garden on Friday and Saturday night. Good chance for a tune up before the big outdoor gig next Thursday. The beer garden has an inset stage on one wall. Adjacent wall is bathrooms and bar. Other two sides are open - roof over the whole thing.

Observations....

OT12s - nice output but I'm having to bump the EQ a fair amount on the top end (1k and up) to get some sparkle out of it. Still working on getting it just right.

T39s - Side-by-side on one side of the stage, backs against the wall. No coverage on the other side of the room until I turned the outside one in (a standing V) -that was enough to fill it up.

Amps - Brand new Drivecores came in on Thursday. Hooked 'em up and set voltages that night. XLS 1500 was fine. XLS 1000 acted up and started showing some faults, then fixed itself and was fine during testing. Yesterday afternoon during sound check, it cratered. Started showing faults, then went to a blue screen on the display (kinda' like the old blue screen of death on computers). Fortunately, being the anal guy I am, we had taken along one of the QSCs that we were replacing - hooked it up and got everything going.

So, XLS Drivecore 1500 performed just fine with OT12s running parallel at 4 ohms on one side and three yamaha monitors at 8ohms each on the other side. The other one is already back in the store for replacment. The guy I buy gear from came by before the gig, pulled it out of the rack and even installed the QSC in the rack while we had gone home to change. That's service. If anyone ever needs a source in San Antonio area - let me know.

Overall, I'd say the system sounded pretty good. I guess the most telling comment was from a friend of my wife who said, "Oooh, I can feel it in my chest". Not bad considering we never pushed the board past -20. It wan't over poweringly loud, but still had some nice thump.

Tonight we go do it again.

6 - T39 3012LF
4 - OT12 2512
1 - T24

Did you try placing the Subs like this image from the "Sub Placement" thread?

some crown models ( I beleive it is not the xls but) are been recalled by crown for some sort of "gremlin faults" ...it is on its page
There is a very thin line between fail and success. It is very thin so, why are you scared???
