Cabs for Electric Bass and Ice-Cream

#1 Post by Harley »

The number of PM's I've recieved regarding "what do you think of xxxx type cab for elect. bass?" have encouraged me to think more graphically about how different types of cabs compare.

Being in a country that has more than one cow for every citizen, we get spoilt with ice-cream choices.

So, I'm going to compare bass cabs with ice-cream, YES, ice-cream!

First, theres the 20litre ( 6gal ) cardboard cartons, the stuff is cold and sweet, resembles a dairy taste, and that's about it. = std radiator 115 cabs (mostly Asian made )
Next, there's the same size bulk cardboard cartons, with "home made" cleverly stamped on them which tastes cold, sweet, a little creamy and the fruit flavour almost resembles the type of fruit displayed on the label = std commercial radiator cabs, perhaps some Asian outer and some US bits inside, if you're lucky.

Thirdly, there's the 5 litre plastic cartons, proudly bearing "home-made"along with a flag, lovely fruit photographs and the promise of 'up-market' Creamier than the above, cold, sweet and definately nice ice-cream - you'd go back for second helpings and always buy this when favoured guests were stopping by = Locally made, up market, std radiator cabs sporting European name-labels.

THEN, we get to the 2litre plastic tubs...mmmmm...creamy, cold, not to sweet and the strawberry tastes exactly like those you picked yourself at summertime. No funny after-taste either. Classy full cream ice-cream so good that you think twice about sharing, even with your best friends = OMNI

What really catches your eye though is the 1/2 litre gourmet ice cream. Nicely shaped container, great graphics and the whole package just smacks of quality. One spoonful in your mouth and you are instantly transported into heaven. This stuff makes the bulk carton variety tatse like sawduset in comparison! Creamy, smooth, cold, fruit tatse that's out of this world and you definately want to keep the whole tub to yourself! - DR250

BUT WAIT - there's MORE!

Finally, in the corner you spy the Gourmet 1/2 litre package and you just can't believe your eyes! it spells out D O U B L E F R U I T! Oh Yeah! First class confirmed ticket to Ice-Cream heaven! All of the above but with a double fruit kick - man Ice-Cream just does not get any better than that! = DR250/T39 or DR250/T24

So elect bass cab sound is purely a matter of taste, just like ice-cream - the only difference being the nicer the sound, the more you want to share!

Simple, as far as I'm concerned and I love both bass and ice-cream.

It's a no brainer really.

At my last rehearsal when I wheeled in my DR290 with piezos (DR280 ish bass cab test), the keyboard player piped up "oh look its the ice cream man".....co-incedence, I dont think so...
