Active crossover
Been looking at active crossovers and my question is, as most seem to be stereo 2 way/mono 3 way, but I will only be wanting mono 2 way ( Sub/Mid for 5 string bass as in omni 212 ) can I use such a unit? Thanks in advance once again.

You can use 1 side of a stereo 2 way.
You may be able to find a mono 2 way out there made by someone or buy an amp with built in DSP capabilities like the XTI from Crown.

Re: Active crossover
This could work if you're not going to high pass your sub:

Re: Active crossover
As Ron indicated:
A Mono 3-way Stereo 2/way crossover often has enough flexibility and variability in frequency adjustment.
Ex A CX2310 crossover sums to a mono sub output.
Using it as a 2 way ( without a sub ) the Sub X-over frequency control becomes an additional H.P filter when set to 40Hz.
Used in conjunction with the 25Hz low cut filter; gives additional over-excursion protection.
