Today the band I play in did a show along the route of the Pittsburgh marathon (outdoors). I have reviewed these cabs before, but every time I get to use them at war volume I am re-impressed. For 2 10" speakers (BP102 in 14" cabs) as subs, and the 2 8" speakers in the tops, these cabs put out a TON of sound.
This system, after initial setup will be very bright. When I run sound I auto-eq to flat and usually end up with the power-amp set to 10:00 (tops) 3:00 (subs). This gives a very balanced sound. There is no chest thump with the subs, but the low end is very full and carries well. The tops to me just sound "closer" than they actually are, esp in the higher registers. I built the melded tweeter arrays to put in, and can mix from stage lip with a fair amount of accuracy. I think this appearance of "closeness" is the line array concept at work, but I'm not sure. It may just be that I'm hearing a sound that isn't peaky across the sound spectrum. Whatever it is, I like it!
In any case, I sat on the fence about what to build (if anything) for literally months. Eventually I sucked up my stones, bought the plans I knew would fit in the pack space I have, and made with the sawdust. Going from 15" + horn speakers on a stick to this system isn't even a comparison. The sound we get is professional sounding and full, and every time we play with other bands, they comment about how great the PA sounds. We can't fill a packed stadium with sound, but we don't need to. We just need to sound awesome in small format venues, and we do. WORTH THE TIME AND EFFORT!

I needed that encouraging report. I'm assembling the first batch of what will be too many (do I really need 8?
) and this is a challenging build. It's been a continuing adventure (only had to rip out a couple pieces so far...no pictures for evidence) and I'm trusting that I too will be amazed. If my local store receives the 1/4" birch tomorrow I'll be installing the walls of the driver chamber. I need the first two done in the next ten days.

I am glad to hear that they are getting built. I hope my arrays are worthy of your craftsmanship!kdchandler wrote:I needed that encouraging report.
