P L Premium adhesive

#1 Post by jason str »

I will start finishing my project soon and was wondering what sticks to this stuff and what does not.

My finish is a oil based product and have both latex and oil based primers here at my disposal.

Any input would be valuable since this is my first time using this product and don't want my finish to have a case of the fuglies.

That's a nice one without context

(sorry, couldn't resist)

On a more serious note: can you try your intended finish and available primers on some scraps? I'd say that's the best way to be sure about it.

Yea, i probably did not word that correctly. Applying my finish is better i guess.

I figured somebody who has had more experience with this product may have some tips is all.

The product information just says paintible but you know how that goes, fine today, peeling up tomorrow.

Many finishes won't stick to PL where it's skin is shiny, like when its been spread about by trying to smooth it out. If that's the case you have to sand it well. If you didn't try to smooth the joints you can scrape off the excess with a sharp chisel. What remains in the joint has exposed pores and finish will bond to it well.

I hit all joints with Rustoleum primer in the rattle can. It even stuck to the shiny stuff that was visible around the speaker wire hole. Rolled some tinted primer after that and it looks great.

My plan was to flush router my edges clean but i will give everything a sanding before my application of the Rust-Oleum primer that was recommended, my paint choice is Rust-Oleum satin smooth black oil paint that i thought would look nice on the Tuba HT, lets hope for some good results.

Thank you for the responses.
