Jack 110 and the rigging to suspend them
Greetings
i built 4 Jack 110's. all load with deltalite ll 2510's, full melded arrays, right to spec. when cutting the cabinet pieces my buddy & i realized what a joke this box might be with it's lego sized pieces. then i fired them up. . . i'm using a small 4 channel carvin 1204 amp with a max of 300 watts per channel @ 4 ohms. 2 jacks per channel, max 150 watts per box, never need the channel gain knob above 11:00 or one third open. i have 3 other 1800 watt amps that i'll never use now, bring one for a spare i guess. some of our comedy clubs hold 600 people. i've used the jacks at 3 different jobs so far. broke the cones in per instructions, slammed duratex on them and they are light, loud, clean, deep, throw sound all over heck evenly, and very cool to pack and move. we are a dueling piano team doing mostly corporate events but we need huge low end on some jobs and these 4 jacks deliver. take your left hand and slam it down on 7 to 9 inches of the low register of a piano starting from C below open E on a bass and see what that does. these things get mean. we werent war volume but the room and the listeners ears didnt need any more volume last week. 250 + people. all bar owners in wisconsin holding a party. happy animals wanting blood.
my goals were the above mentioned, loud, deep, clean, inexpensive, along with being light enough to place on tripods. i often have to shoot sound left, left center, right center, and right due to long rectangular shaped banquet halls. these do it all very well. may not even have to splay them as i did last week. i like that this much hell can be rolled in one trip with a hand truck. club owners will look at me thinking " we're gonna have 400 people tonight bozo, those things look like monitors ".
i love the ease by which i hang them. i didnt want one box per pole with a top hat cup in the bottom for a couple reasons. top hat installation is more work to do than what i did, requiring placement accuracy beyond this other option and one box per stick is also is easier for a drunk to slam into and topple. rather, i have a pair of jacks held up with a pair of tri pod poles, one tri pod per side of the lower jack. i used a heavy duty semi threaded U clamp or U bolt bout in the middle of the box an inch or two above the bottom of the cabinet with washers and nuts on inside and outside of jack side to secure the U clamp. one U clamp per side. only do this to 2 of the 4 boxes. the tri pod pole goes through that U clamp and secures the bottom of the jack from any motion. above the U clamp in the center of the side near the top of the cabinet is a 6" or 7" T iron. get all this at any hardware store for cheap. after each T iron was bolted to jack side, i bent the verticle leg out a tad so it extends half an inch or so away from the outside of the box, allowing it to easily slip into the inside of the top of the tripod pole and down 4 or so inches which totally stablizes the jack. id have photos but i could come up with a cure for cancer faster than figuring out how to upload. 2 tri pod poles goes up, distance doesnt have to be perfect as you can one hand the bottom of the jack while grabbing other tripod and move it into U clamp position. could assemble it on ground and lift too. grab jack and lower it so U clamps go over both tri pod pole tops. the T iron legs enters the top of the tripod pole and you're secure. the second jack goes on top. use plastic somewhat locking corners. to secure top jack to bottom jack, i use 2 eye bolts, 2 nuts & 4 washers that go through the bottom of the upper jack, through the top of the lower jack, one on each side of array placed far back near middle. 1/4 inch drill bit. because i often have to shoot sound 4 dirrections, i put a 14" x 14" mattress topper piece between the two boxes and i can simply angle the top jack left or right for coverage. when angling the top jacks, i just have one eye bolt holding the top jack to the bottom jack. still at least as stable as the typical cone + horn on a stick. this last corporate room had a low ceiling so i raised my poles up to where the jacks had a ceiling boundry for better lows. ( i think it worked ? ) if this worked, it is another advantage of the jack vs the typical jbl-zebub eon or similar. it sure pounded like a bear thumping around. with the melded array running the length of the box and since there is no sonic difference between the top & bottom of the jack, the design allows it to couple to the ceiling when slammed up against it whereas a typical 12" or 15" cone with horn on top wouldnt due to the horn being up against the ceiling creating a gap. is that correct? who cares, i said it, it sounds cool, we'll leave it at that. to elevate the extending tri pod pole, i use a bolt and wing nut going through holes i drilled with various height options. dont trust the cheap plastic screw knobs that strip and break. i had to move one pair last week after they were up. easy, take top jack off, grab both tripods and walk with your total weight of 40 pounds already elevated. place jack back on top, bolt down and relax. its as if there really is no weight up there. i use a 21 band on 'em. also thinking in smaller rooms i could stack 2 jacks facing a corner and let 'em rip for extra low end at some jobs if i only need 2 in the air. great versitality if you have enough single jacks! i should have 8, 4 corner loaded and 4 in air but where would i need this much noise? until you've grabbed one of these pups and tossed it around like a 12 pack, you'll never appreciate this design. i have the kits for 2 DR200's but havent built them yet. i will hang them the same way if i ever use them. i no longer have to bi amp and drag subs and my pack space is reduced greatly. got kits for 2 T39's with 3012LF's but wont need those now eigther. i could dig 5 jacks per side stacked, bottom 3 arrays switched off. great coupling for monster low end and lightweight. the melded arrays sound sweet. to come up with lightweight designs that sound this good is one thing, but being restricted having to use whatever cones are available makes bills work even more impressive. the tuning and design of these boxes had to take some time and thought. i love moving my jacks in & out, setting them up and having people feel thump, understand our words and not have high end abrasion. jacks rock, bill rocks, and now i rock ! sorry for being long winded but set up and tear down is the "work" of a live performance and settling for crud sound never inspires my best performance and i no longer have to face those two issues so it's easy to keep boasting the jack design.

Re: Jack 110 and the rigging to suspend them
Well, that sure looked like an interesting post but by the 5th line...I gave up.
biodad, PLEASE post in easy, readable, bite sized paragraphs and then most folk here will take the time to read it.
Typing in one large block with no capitalisation etc, is hard for us people who went to school and learned to write the proper way
From the gist of it, I gather you're rather pleased with your Jacks and have a novel way to hang them.

+1. It was like watching those cackling hens on 'The View': completely unintelligible. You need to learn how to use the 'shift' key, the occasional capital letter works wonders, especially at the beginning of sentences.Harley wrote:Well, that sure looked like an interesting post but by the 5th line...I gave up.

NEW CONDENSED REVIEW:
Jack 110's are the best smal inexpensive lightweight full range box in the world. I dought I'll ever build my DR200 and T39 kits now.

OK, no pics, it didn't happen yet. If someone can step by step, but not one big huge miserable paragraph without correct punctuation, number and list how i take my digi camera and upload pics, I will. Make instructions on uploading pics a sticky or whatever for guys like me with only 16 years education. Many of you cats would adopt this system to hang your boxes. Others may take a hit out on me. Just leave my jacks alone ! Permission granted to delete my miserable suiside invoking review. Let's all make the world a better place, eh?

1/ are you able to upload the pics from your camera, onto your computer? and save them there?
2/ if #1 is complete, you have several choices. You can start an "album" on Picassa, Photobucket, ...and some others that I can't remember. When the album is 'saved', then you can highlight the address bar on the top of your screen (do you know how?) right-click (again, do you know how?), and then left-click on the "copy".
#3 when you reply, you can then right-click, which opens up a dialog box ( and then left-click on "paste")... and the address will show up.
Try to get an album going.
Another option is to follow this advice http://billfitzmaurice.info/forum/viewt ... f=7&t=7603. My only concern for this direction is that the images are too small for my liking, or converesly, the images may get too large for those who still have to endure dial-up (for what-ever reason).

Cool, a friend does dual piano work as well at times. Not sure if they are going to need amplification in the future, but I will think about this if they do.
Thanks for sharing. Some pictures would be great. If you cannot get pictures posted but are able to get them on your own computer and send by email, then get in touch through PM. I will put them online and post here if you like.

Re: Jack 110 and the rigging to suspend them
Here is a good tip for reading long non-capitalized non-paragraphed non-punctuated posts.
Simply reduce the width of your browser window to about half normal.
This reduces the length of the lines greatly enhancing the ability to find the beginning of the next sentence.
There now... see how easy that was!

well, I talk too much, that's for sure. I could have simply said "jacks are clean" and so on but then, "clean" to you may not be clean to me. I seldom hear a balanced "clean" sound system. I went for detail and figured us artisans could catch the periods and know how to interperate the message. I'll be more attentive next time should I review anything.
I also will snap shots of this rigging tomorrow and if I cant get them loaded up myself, I will forward them to the kind soul who said he would upload them. Let the grammar queens feast once again.

You missed the point entirely.biodad wrote: Let the grammar queens feast once again.
It's not about grammar. It's about communication.
Believe me, we are interested in what you have to say, but if you want most of us to take notice an spend the time reading your posts then you need to communicate properly. Also if you expect help from us at some stage, same deal.
You're not being picked on, in fact I am trying to help you.
It's that simple.
