Crown K2 Sleep Circuit Disable for HT use (pics)

I pulled one of the K2's out of storage for HT duty this week. I got annoyed very quickly with its sleep circuit kicking in every few seconds on the quiet stuff so I disabled it according to their tech bulletin. All one has to do is run a jumper across the Z1 pads. This provides a constant signal to the sleep circuit making the amp idle without going into stand-by.

Opening the chassis:

The open bridge "Z1" pads immediately below the electrolytic cap front and center:

The circuit defeated by jumping the pads:

Worked like a champ!

Thanks so much for posting this, with pictures to boot.

I knew the mod existed, but had no idea what was involved.

If I did this with my K2, I would like to use a toggle switch in the jumper to be able to use the amp with or without the mod. Any reason not to? Bad idea?

You're welcome! 8)

It wouldn't be to difficult to thru-hole mount something like this or similar over the pads.

Plenty of room around that capacitor, I'd just make sure you keep things small, rated for heat, and rigidly mounted to ensure reliability if that's the route you choose. Another option would be to run wires from the pads to a switch mounted through the rear of the chassis.

The jumper is quite easy to install or de-solder with a sharp pen iron and tweezers.
