And does anyone remember what Thread talks about using one amplifier for 8 Tubas? Were planning a sounds off in Sept. Against a guy that swears having 50,000 watts 12 18' bass reflex cabs and 12 sound controlled lights can trump smart energy planning, 8 Bill Fitzmaurice Tuba 60 and 7 DMX controlled lights. Were looking into a Active signal splitter to keep everything bass summed into both channels of one amplifier in stereo mode at 8 Ohms. So i also need the thread that pionts how to get 8Ohms from 4 tubas and calculate voltage from amplifiers lent my electrical theory book out and its lost.   tanks in advance :D

Each tuba being a nominal 8 ohm you can series/parallel them until the cows come home but 8 of them will be 4 ohm or 16 ohm. If you have some super dooper amp that can do all the wattage for 4 of them series parallel at 8 ohms then you're good in stereo.

Some badarse amps might be good for full power at 2 ohm then you could have all the boxes parallel, 4 per channel. I pity the amp though. Proving a point is one thing but gear is too precious to me for that sort of thing.

I would go for a couple of heavy old Crown or similar amps that do 1000W at 4 ohm per channel, with limiting. You'll need some good power supply!

Hey Zefren

Seems to me you are the T60 king around here.
Just out of interest, what tops do you use with all your T60's?

I just around to checking the vid

8.23 "how's that bass?" actually not so T60 bassy as the last vid.

Quick question- what are the lasers in the vid?
Before Fitzmaurice, big bass could only be had with just a hook and a nightcrawler.

That is the Prime Reason I want to purchase a two track recorder and boom microphone. Cellphones depending on manufacturer and how your hold them will have marginal good to horrible capture of bass. Al least with a boom mic we can use the "good audio" and sync it to any video source.

But i will admit that we received little recognition and had to settle for $200 for two days work and the night event. My cousin and I are at a lost as to what we're really worth? Lafs ... Each security guard at this event received $350. 350 people at $20 per was the cover. It made us think, Any thoughts from the Bill Fitzmaurice crew?

Has far as other reasons for bass being "boomy"

1. The Facility had to be notified of any placement of equipment under the stage. Because of that the Tubas were 60 ft apart from each other in groups of two, and about 4 ft off ground level.

2. The promoter wanted a quote "Wide sound" not localized like at the previous gig

3. The contracted Sound guy got his way so, The talent would patch into his Live performance mixer send us an RCA out-put to our mixer and then to out to out crossover and amps. Despite Yelling repeatedly full frequency to everyone the settings changed all night and at one point the sound man changed the crossover settings on his tops that i painstakingly set to our Tubas.

4. The quality of the Audio from the talent varied widely all night, My cousin and I always use WAV files from high quality sources if we can't get a a hold of the vinyl.

5. The talent would give us blank stares when we ask to set their mixers and equipment to a certain setting.

But all in all a great learning expirence just wish we could stop the Rodney Dangerfield "i don't get no respect" bit lol

any :feedback:

One-shinp DL-22, 4 shinp DL-55

Im pretty sure these guys are very close to having an illegal power rating since the warning label rating doesn't match what comes out. I kept the beams for the most part out of the crowd and tried to keep a heavy fog presence when they were on. But they were the promoter's lasers, so...

Build tops and underbid the contracted sound guy. He's obviously an idiot.

I don't get how little you were paid. Seems like you and cousin were hired for bass and running lights, winding up rigging everything on the fly, but no contract? Was that 200 each for 2 days setup/takedown and the show in between? I don't hire my subs for that.

Thats why were asking you guys for advice, we havent made enough to fund any more tuba and hopefully we can figure out how much we should be charging. From our previous experience we have been led to believe that the dj light show bass and tops and a whole night show was about $
200. We talked to 1 dj who charges 300 dollars a night But we still have no idea what fair market value would be for what we provide. So far that a Verbal contract 200 dollars for everything.

Whats the pay for a McDonalds employee per hr in the states?

At least make that much each.

I have a personal philosophy that my time is worth something so I average out everything to a $/hr basis. Including my driving to/from work, unpaid overtime, the lot. Commuting 2-3hrs a day (very common here) really screws your $/hr ratio lol.

You also have expenses such as Fuel, Food, Car maintenance/rego, equipment depreciation/replacement to cover.

I started a thread on charging a wee while ago, I got a lot of good advice. It boiled down to charging what I could get away with in my situation. 10% of retail for pure hirage was mentioned, no way I can get that.

If I was you I'd build some tops to go with the subs before doing any more subs That way you can put yoursefl forward to promotor as the goto sound guy and charge good money. These events you are doing seem to be well run, but you aren't fairly rewarded.

As above, once you get the kit together you need to step in and run the sound as let's face it, most soundguys know how patch cables and that's about it IME...

I wanted to get my kit into a venue but the soundguy there didn't want to use it as he "knew the quirks of the existing system" which boiled down to him not wanting to be arsed. The entire evening sounded truly awful.

If you're running sound then you get to place shit where you need it, not where some dickhead who knows nothing wants it.
