Last weekend I finished all the lips for the speaker chambers glued in. I even remembered to come back after a few hours and scrape away the squeeze out before it got rock hard. Afterwards I noticed that all of a sudden the cabinets felt a little less flimsy.
Now I'm putting in panel 6.
I have to say, I'm impressed with how fault tolerant the plans are.
I hosed my number 6 panels pretty bad, the right angle I was using was actually more like 89.5 degrees, which ends up being out more than 1/8" inch out after flipping the board over and making a second cut. But after I figured out that my sides were bent outwards, I laid them on top of some poplar 1x2 culls I got from HD for 51 cents each, and now the 5-6 joint is within 1/16" all the way across, and the panel 6 to side butt is flush.
Yeah, I know I'm going to pay with the 6-7 butt joints being totally out of whack, but all I need to do is make sure that panel 7 ends in the right spot: the back of the cabinet is like starting over.
One thing for sure, I'd need a lot more practice before even thinking about hanging out my shingle as a licensed builder.
