drihanek originally asked about amps, as well, so this is my suggestion:

As long as you are running fewer than 4 tops and 4 subs, you should be able to get by running them all on 2 amps (all drivers at 4 ohms, right?)

My new amp setup is a pair of Crown XTi 1000 amps inside a 4 space SKB roller rack.

The built in DSP should do the trick for flattening out the system, limiting, and crossover. Each amp is about 18 pounds. Our "old" Crown XLS802 was probably pushing 35 or 40. We were able to sell our DriveRack too.

The best part is that the whole thing rolls in like luggage, and it's an easy one-handed lift for stairs, etc. The rack + 2 amps is under 45 pounds.

I'm building a panel for the back which has L + R in, and speakon outs, to make setup a breeze.

Just throwing out the idea for you drihanek!

Sweet I think that is what I wanted to hear. We are using some older Crown Microtech's (can't remember the number) to run the EAW LA set up but the case easily weighs around 135 pounds. I would really like two lightweight amps, running 4 of each, that when I need to will get crazy loud but still sound good. By the way what speakers are you using?

drihanek, I only have 2 Tuba24s built so far. Soon starting a pair of either Otop12s or DR200s (not sure which, yet). For now, our tops are EV SX100s. For monitors, we have 2 Mackie SRM450s up front and us rhythm dudes have in ears, so we don't need power amps for monitoring.

Just a note from my first experience with the Titan 39. I wanted to hear what it sounded like, but it was totally invisible. It wasn't boomy or tight, I couldn't hear the box at all. Instead the room had a full sound. If I closed my eyes, I couldn't point to the source. Today, I played it in my bedroom (where it's currently stored) and the room had a 'tone', but the sub itself didn't.

When you can you're hearing midbass and midrange, and when that comes from a sub it's distortion. Direct radiating subs have high distortion, folded horns have, for all intents and purposes, none.

Just thought I'd chime in here and add my 2 cents.

The macrotech's are a way higher quality amp than the xti's - I think it would be a mistake to downgrade. XTi's have a lot of nice DSP, and I have some, but they don't compare. I mainly use I-Tech HD's (macrotech with BSS Omnidrive built in). It's a night and day difference over the XTi's. I'm not an amp expert or anything but power a cab with the xti, switch to the itech, and it sounds like a different box.

I'd assume there is a difference in quality between a $4000 amp and a $400 amp. The bar I worked at in college had a big rack of Micro or Macro something, and they were tanks. Unfortunately I can only afford a $400 amp.

Yeah, I checked there is a Macrotech 3600 and a 5000. But man they weigh a ton, and if I'm gonna really only use the first 200 watts or so per side .... I don't know its really the first time I've thought about it this in depth but I sure do like lite. Bill you think the OT12 over the DR 250 with a Titan 39, correct. I think it is time to stop over thinking. What amps would you use with 4 sets of those?

What boxes can I use the bp102 in? I have the opportunity to buy 4 of them for $150, is it worth it?

T24, T39, T30, O12 2x10 option. If they are new, yes it's a good deal.

If you get them, IMHO, build T39s. 4 20" wide T39s would make a killer sub system!

That's about half price on the drivers (maybe just a little over half), and it's less than a single 3012LF. You can use them in the T39's up to 20" wide. I built a pair of 14" wide T39's with BP102's and loved them. I have since sold them and built a pair of 20" wides with the 3012LF, but only because I wanted to have no more than two subs. If I would have been OK with four, I would have kept the pair I had and added another BP102-loaded pair. One a one-to-one basis, the 3012LF walks all over the BP102, but if you can get four for the price of a single 3012LF, the BP102 wins the bang-for-buck award.

As for tops, I had a pair of DR250's, and I loved them also. I ended up deciding that I wanted to go smaller and more modular, so I'm currently working on four DR200's. I'm no expert woodworker, and I was very nervous about the DR250's, but take it slow, and you'll be fine.

As for amps, I'm building my DR200's with 16-ohm drivers, so when I'm done I'll be running all four DR200's and a pair of T39's off a single Crown XTi-4000.

Change in plans. Those bp102's didn't look or sound right to me so I let them go. After some more reading and conversation and thought. I have decided that I am going to build a trial set of DR250's with the melded arrays and Titan 39's with the 3012lf. I want to get all of Bill's plans so I just need to scrape together a little more cash. But someone else has already agreed to fund the trial build. Thoughts......?

Since I got burned on this in the past, I'd suggest you get a firm monetary commitment ( at least to cover material costs ).
