Well, life happens. It’s been awhile since I posted on this. I was able to get back in the garage and do some more work on them.

Without further ado, here are the pics!

Now the next step is to paint. The wife just wants them done. I’m debating whether or not to prime them with the automotive spray primer I have on hand. I have Valspar paint/primer in one. I was wondering how to proceed. They will be hung in a dark room, nobody touching them, and RARELY moved if at all. Will just painting be good enough?

I would do up right, using primer, because you will want to show them off!

Thanks Tom, I was leaning that way, just bit the bullet and did it.

ALL my cans of primer had NO propellant in them, much to my dismay. Quick trip to Blue Box store set me right. Spray primer is $8 a can!! When did it get so expensive? Bought a quart of the BIN primer and went to town.
Glue Monkey wanted to help so I gave her a brush and cut her loose. We put it on a bit thick so sanding will be fun....

Actually, cost wasn’t bad at all. If I remember correctly, I’m only in for about $300. That’s everything, components, adhesive, lumber, the whole shebang. If you add up the hours spent working on it at my hourly rate?........Moving on.

I tried to connect the wires according to “NASA” specs, don’t know if it’s overkill or not. I’ll post pics of them twisted together in the morning. (couldn’t solder because I forgot my sponge) The one thing that has me concerned is soldering to the tag boards. I’ve never used them before so i’m Not certain the best way to do it. I was wanting to use the tabs for spade connectors, but not sure if I could solder the components into the holes of the board. Anybody with more experience than me, feel free to chime in.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but, it is okay to solder to those tabs. Pre-tin the items that you want to solder because it makes it easier to solder the items together (and put less heat into the joint).

Thanks for the tip Tom! I was talking about soldering the leads into the holes that mount the tabs to the Phenolic(sic) board. I was going to use the actual tabs to connect the speaker wires to those. Possible?

This is one of the twists that didn’t go so well. I think it will work though. Tom, the spots I was talking are circled here.

Have you twisted together the wire part covered with lacker ? That will not take solder

I did, company I bought from said it wasn’t a lacquer and that it could be soldered.

The coil wires are coated with enamel, not lacquer, and usually the last inch or so is left bare for soldering. If it's not you'd have to remove the enamel there.

Well crap, here’s to hoping I don’t have to buy new components......
