So I had my first real newbie screw-up last night while putting on the last side. Checked all my panels with a straight edge and, good! no more than 1/16 off each other, almost perfect. Then applied PL with a steady hand, a nice thick bead along each panel edge. I even finished off the tube of PL right at the last inch of the last panel... perfect! Finally, I carefully lowered the side squarely on top, looks great! Time to screw it down and call it good. But when I drove that first screw down on my mark line for an inner panel, wait... what? That sure didn't feel right. looking down the throat of the horn I see it missed it's mark by inches. OH NO!!!!! I have my mark lines on the wrong side of the board!!!
:cussing: :bash: :cussing: :bash: :cussing: :bash: :cussing: :bash: :cussing:  :cussing:  :cussing: :cussing:
Panic attack! what to do, what to do!?!?! I ended up pulling it back off, wiping all the PL off. what a friggin mess. PL everywhere. marked my lines on the correct side, and then started over. To top it all off, somehow while tightening the screws down, the side shifted slightly so it isn't square. It's off on about 1/16-1/8 at either corner. ARRGGGG! oh well. not enough for it to fail I hope. just enough to piss me off even more. no pics. too embarrassing. Note to other newbies: check your lines and make sure your stuff fits correctly before you use PL especially on the last side! DOH!

That can't happen if you align the side with flat jigs per the plans. It only takes a few minutes to do, and it's a few minutes well invested.

yep! I was going to follow up with something about that when I was all done this weekend. (the fact that I hurried on this build) I did use angle and flat jigs for most of the panels, but in my haste I hurried past doing so on the last side. If I build another one, I will take more time with my cuts and setup. I guess this is the learning experience. in the end, it will go smoother if you take your time.

Oh and to add some pain to my frustration: I somehow got two giant slivers, one in each index finger! Why does it hurt so bad today? it must be PL poisoning? :noob:

So to follow up, it all turned out just fine. I borrowed a belt sander from a friend to take down the edges of the final side that was slightly off square. So in the end, it doesn't look all too bad. Not sure if I will paint it or not as it is hidden, sandwiched between the couch and a wall. I guess I got everything glued air tight with PL because it sounds awesome! I quickly kicked the old ported 12" to the garage. I mean really...WOW!, so that's what a good sub is supposed to sound like! We have watched a few movies and the wife gave me  look when it felt like the couch was going to move around on the floor. I wonder what it will be like with a second one. hehe.

If I do a 2nd one it will be a while. next project is larger MTM center speaker. after that, I will probably take my time and build a 2nd TTLS.

thanks for the tips and help along the way. I'm very happy with the end result.

Well, you've learnt what a sub is meant to sound like.

Go for gold with your centre!
Forget the MTM, inherently it works, but poorly.
Do a curved SLA...

.
Have you considered the CurveArray SLA for a centre channel?

yes, I was considering that. However, I already have components to build the mtm. Not sure I have enough space for the curved SLA either. at 31" it will be quite wide. how tall is it?

edit> damn you guys! :noob: you now have me seriously considering shelving my parts for the MTM and building a curved SLA! I guess I should start a new thread with all my many questions about the build.

Buy the SLA plans and have a look at the Curved Array section.
There is a great explanation at the start of that section about why the curved array SLA works best as a centre channel...
