Awesome tips. Thanks for sharing!
What brad nailer do you have? Do you like it? What size brads nails do you use? Different sizes for different tasks?

It's a Porter Cable that my wife bought me for Father's Day many years ago.....she also got me a Plate Joiner that year. Now, my friend - that's a wife!Ian Westwood wrote:Awesome tips. Thanks for sharing!

I use 1-1/4" brads 90% of the time. But, I keep 3/4, 1, 2 around. I used the 3/4 today on the quarter rounds that go inside the handholds.

Theoretical question:
The mounting on a space behind the baffle would influence the VTC&ATC and the cone loading would change because of the the smaller square opening in the baffle LPT & AP1.
How big is the difference in response between the old and the new style T39? Are there any charts comparing the two?

That is certainly a question for Bill. But, I'm sure that he took that into account when designing the new version.

Re: New Build of Old-style T39s
Been out sick and lost 5 days of work time on these.....Anyway, back at it yesterday..
This is from last week after all the braces were in place and right before I buttoned 'em up with the second side.

Here's with the sides on.

The second side is never exactly square, so I always make sure that the top front corner is squared up as close as possible. Then a flush trim bit and a little sanding cleans it all up nicely.
Yesterday I hit it hard again with filling holes, sanding, and rounding over all the edges. Then I build the front braces and got them dialed in.
This morning the cross brace and the handhold got done. I like the handhold in the middle of that brace. We used to use a trailer with no ramp and with one person up in the trailer, that handhold was very easy to use. You don't have to go all the way to the ground to get it and it's centered so one hand does it.
Just waiting for the glue to dry, then I'll clean it up and start painting with flat black.

When I first saw this pic, I thought "Wow, Bruce is really using the scraps up well!" thinking it was the back. Later, I realized that it is the front.Bruce Weldy wrote: Here's with the sides on.

Very nice, Bruce. Congrats! The hard part of your new T39s is done! Question for you: In this pic, the two smaller panel braces on the left; do you glue those in before you glue in the panel it connects to? Seems it would be a lot easier to do that than to try and wedge it in there after the fact.

Also, is there a strength issue with having the handhold on the braces vs. on the bottom panel of the cab? I'd be afraid of ripping the braces out while trying to heave the cab up into the truck.
ps
Congrats on the Photobucket account too.

It's not hard to slide 'em in there. Remember, you put them in as you go, so all the other panels aren't in the way yet.miked wrote:Very nice, Bruce. Congrats! The hard part of your new T39s is done! Not at all. The person on top is lifting, the bottom is just helping. Anyway, that PL isn't letting go.Also, is there a strength issue with having the handhold on the braces vs. on the bottom panel of the cab? I'd be afraid of ripping the braces out while trying to heave the cab up into the truck.
You noticed that, eh? Turns out that I already had a photobucket account. I used it one a year ago to post something on another forum. I like the resizing feature - really easy. And I think the pics look better too. Guess I'm a convert.ps
Congrats on the Photobucket account too.
Thanks to you and Grant both.

On a more somber note, very sorry to hear of more trouble in the US, the latest being much closer to you Bruce, only a couple of hours from you, near Waco.
Tragic loss of life...

Yes, it is all very sobering. Tragedy can strike anywhere, anytime.

Re: New Build of Old-style T39s
Put two coats of flat black on the cabs last night....

But much to my surprise....

The bondo in one of the screw holes had popped out overnight....found it on the floor. Never had that happen before...

Shoved some more bondo in it a bit ago. Will head out again soon to finish the primer coat on the bottoms, then start the duratex. Wet and sloppy here today....hope it doesn't slow down drying time too much.
