Re: DR200s and Slim T60s
Well bassically (not a typo
) they are done, I still need to install the driver on the one. I sprayed the bass (hehe) coat on all the cabs then switched to the duratex, and for some reason I could not get it to spatter. Are you supposed to thin it? It didn't say that on the instructions. Do you need a special gun or is any hvlp gun compatible? I went through a whole 3/4 gallon of the stuff, and I was going light with it.
From now it will be tedious work, putting on corners, fabricating my monitor hinge, installing handles; all the finishing touches

Before Fitzmaurice, big bass could only be had with just a hook and a nightcrawler.

Re: DR200s and Slim T60s
Omg just did the first proper test with the tubas, and extatic is an understatement! Techmaster peb- bassgasm and tyga make it nasty really showed me their capability. In make it nasty I knew there were low notes, but there was one that I didn't know was there until now. this was in a garage, everything was shaking. If it was in the house I bet it would be similar to the guy on avs with the 2 thts rattling the candles off his coffee table! Just immense
I had them against walls facing a corner, and on bassgasm, I put my head in front of the mouths, and I actually had pain in my ears. I won't do that again! I had a neighbor who was at least a quarter mile away come over and yell at me. Well it was fun while it lasted. On the 21st I have a outdoor house party, I wish it was indoors but still it should be fun. I can't wait to try them in a gym! After a couple gigs I will put a proper review in

Re: DR200s and Slim T60s
actually I will be building a dually, and probably 2-4 280s. i have to ask you, do 280s look too big for smaller >100 person events?

Re: DR200s and Slim T60s
Dj Higgumz, I´d say the DR 280s are a bit big for the typical <100 people event yes, but you can always turn down;) I used my 2 DR 280s and my 2 T48 (31.5") in a "basement", about 4x12meter or so, while we did run the Titans more or less at full tilt, the DR´s were dialed back a lot, think I had around -16 on the the amp for the compressiondrivers, and -12 or so for the mids, maybe even less. Tops were plenty loud:P I´d still like more bass though;)
We played around a bit with the subplacement, we could get nice even coverage, around 117dbC in the middle of the dancefloor without maxing the subs, just subs playing a loop hardcore bass-track. But then we had nowhere to put the tops and we had to much bass where the dj was, couldnt have the DRs on the stands anywhere safe, so ended up placing them on the subs, standing upright, maybe 2-2,5 meters C-C between the stacks, beacause of a door..
Still sounded awesome, and got a nice cancelation at the "stage", and a lot of bass on the dancefloor, plus it looked impressive:P
But, if I had smaller lighter tops, I would have brought them, and had them on stands.
On the other hand, I dont want to give up the DR 280s lowmids, so will stay with them, but probably build a pair of SLA Pro´s for the smaller events.
Remember, the above event was a Hardcore Rave, maybe 20people tops on the floor
and really bassheavy music at 140-250bpm or so

Re: DR200s and Slim T60s
Well, I dont have any DR 250s to compare to, but I guess that those few centimeters and kg that is it smaller will make some difference, it seems like most people consider the 250s one man cabs, and 280s as two man cabs.
Although, it is no problem to lift a 280 by yourself as such, and with some good handles you can probably carry it a for a while also, but its not really comfortable, it is quite big, and if not very heavy it does weigh propably a bit over 20-25kg, havent weighed mine yet
We dont have handles on ours jet, but we have a bracket made of 25x50mm aluminium profiles, that we both use to hang it from roofs or truss, and with an adapter, put them on stands. Right now we are also carrying them in that bracket, not very comfortable
That system is gonna change soon, we are not completly happy with it, it was a very quick build to get them up at a gig, and as temporary fixes go, it has stuck on now for maybe 6-8 gigs
I´ll take some pictures and show you guys:)
Also, I highly recommend doing some version of the short side way to build them, with the back reflectors visible, it looks nicer, more fun to build, probably a bit lighter and easier to carry.

Re: DR200s and Slim T60s
DR280s are too much. Call me too old, too weak, or too lazy - but DR200s are what I would be building for 100 people. If your crowd sizes grow, build another pair of 200s. MAYBE you could use 250s, but why? Build some 200s and call it good... no, call it 'awesome'. That's what it will be.

Re: DR200s and Slim T60s
I think I'm going to go for the 280s, because to build them they are maybe $25 more than the 280s. I will then make 2 dr200s, and when I rig it all, I will have 2 280s per side facing the back, and the 200s aiming down at the front. then when I have smaller gigs I can use the 200s only on stands
I haven't viewed this thread in a while so I may be repetitive. but now what would I do for tweeters? for the 280s I will probably have flat array, then for the 200s I would go melded.

Before Fitzmaurice, big bass could only be had with just a hook and a nightcrawler.

Re: DR200s and Slim T60s
If you plan on expanding to 4 i would go for all the same cabs. Just my honest opinion.
Life is just a game, don't take it to seriously!
Re: DR200s and Slim T60s
I am all for over kill, but that much top will be enough for 600-1000 people. *Nobody* likes 140 db of mid and treble. You can use 2 dr200 at maybe 1/3 power, or 4 280s and 2 dr200s at maybe 1/30th power for a 100 person party. Seems like way more effort and money than what is needed.

Re: DR200s and Slim T60s
maybe I should explain. I'm going into the promotion business, so the necessity of running 800 person shows is there. but when I have weddings and such, I would bring one pair. I was asking if they look too big, and don't sound as good a single 200, bc they are designed for larger arrays. I may just go for 6 dr200s, for the sake that I will likely fly them, so weight is an issue.

Re: DR200s and Slim T60s
Split the difference and build 250s. Nobody gives away gigs of that size to someone without a lot of experience, a ton of gear and staff, and they often have riders that require specific name-brand speakers. Are there any local promoters that you could intern for, or apprentice?
