Bill Fitzmaurice wrote: Sat Jul 23, 2022 3:05 pm Their data is flawed, because modeling programs are only accurate up to about 200Hz. They also show results if mounted in a wall baffle, not enclosures of equal size. Worse, they measure one at 2.83v, one at 4.0 v. I don't know what that's all about, but it accounts for a 3dB difference.
Thanks again Bill.
I'll probably start the saw tomorrow. :chainsaw:

Ah damn. I thought the "1/2 inch voice coil" was the dome size. My tweeter is 1 inch. So pretty far from the plans, I hope it doesn't screw things up.

How would you mount the 4PF-8? I'm thinking about front-mouting then because it's easier - and want to make some grills for them anyway.

Does it make a difference?

SLA is a bit simpler to build than the tubas.

Dang Jens, you're moving right along on this venture

I'm not sure the dome size will or won't negatively effect the sonic quality of your build. But, I would think if the frame size is still 2½" or less, you should be fine. We'll see what Bill has to say about the suitability of 1" tweeters instead of the recommended 3/8 to 1/2 inch variant. I'm curious too.

1" tweeters won't have as wide dispersion as smaller units. The reason to use 1" is when they're crossed over fairly low, which you do with larger midbasses because they have narrower dispersion in their upper end than smaller midbasses. Other than with subs the reason to use a particular size driver is output capability versus dispersion, which is always a compromise.

Makes sense. Hope it'll work out!

Read the instructions. Twice. And then one more time.
Then check the drivers you're buying. Then check them again.
I'll probably be better at cutting them as I go along. First one is not pretty. I'll smooth it out with some acrylic filler. Wood filler, perhaps?

Not so pretty. But it'll work. Next challenge is to seal it properly.

Good job Jens. I'm not sure my mind would have come up with that solution on its own. Very creative

Is it your intention to use them for the outdoor deal? Or are you still planning on using the boominator for that?

Thank you.
I'm thinking the boominator, but it could be fun with these.

I really underestimated all the wiring and hole cutting. A moment of silence for those of you, who has build til TLAH and SLA centers.

And then all the modifications I have to do. Failing to plan is planning to fail, right?

I thought the idea was to cut all of the interior, adjoining edges flat?

Sorry guys. I won't be finishing the project anyway. Thanks for all your answers.

I'll say goodbye (again!) - and hopefully this time, I'll be able to stay off the internet and speaker addiction for good.
I actually just took a drill trough all "DIY" components I have lying around. Not the ones I'm actually using ofcourse.. It's really not healthy for me - time to focus on the family :-)

Bye!
