If you do that wrap the magnet so that the metal dust doesn't stick to it.

You could rear mount the tweeter if you routered the opening of the tweeter opening from the front for better dispersion. The tweeter face plate would not hit the woofer cone from the back side.

You could also shift the tweeter to the right or left to get some clearance to move the woofer up a little. If all 8 were shifted the same way it would probably look okay.

I ended up going with the "in the box tweeter" and routing a little groove for the driver frames. It's not perfect but from a distance not particularly noticeable and they certainly sound good :) Thanks again for the tips and ideas :)

I will be doing the same center channel build with the same 4" driver. I was thinking about using 9 tweeters and having just one tweeter firing either to the rear, up, or side firing . I was thinking "outside the box" on this one. Your "inside the box" idea works too.

Since I have a whole bunch of those closeout Peerless 3/4" 6-ohm tweeters which are only 10 watt rms, I am just going to double them in the front and use 16 tweeters and wire them in groups of 4 series/parallel to get back to 6 ohm.

I would have fired the tweeter to the rear or side but I just kinda ran out of enthusiasm and had the hot glue gun handy. If I was doing it again...I'd probably fire it rearwards.
