Rich, I think I'd really enjoy making a few different ultralight cabs using alternative construction materials and methods sometime. Sounds like a fun little project and challenge to see how light a cab could be made and maintain it's sonic integrity. I'd be most interested in testing materials and methods out on a Tuba or Titan design though.

I'm going to try to keep this current (DR200) build as close to the plans as possible and just use thinner ply and remove excess material/weight throughout the build to achieve the lowest weight (reasonably) possible.

I keep using the word "reasonably". Reason is, I'm not aiming at a "no holds barred", light at any cost, build. Reasonable convenience and ease of use will take precedence over weight reduction. I want the same usability and function as I'd have if I built them by-the-book, but as light as possible within that context.

Wish we all lived a little closer to each other. Would be a fun little group project to build with some of those panels you have

Bill,

You mention, in the DR200 plans, that mounting the horn throat divider slightly off center improves midrange response. Could it be potentially detrimental to midrange response if I swiss cheesed the throat divider? I want to make it light, but I don't want to undo any of the purposeful science you put into the design while I'm at it.

Big deal, leave it solid? Or, minor technicality, go ahead and lighten it?

Willing to make it solid and even out of ½" instead of ¼", if it's a big benefit to the cabs overall response.

Thank you.

You can slice it or dice it, julienne if you wish, but it won't accomplish anything other than to make the cab an ounce or two lighter.

Thank you Bill. I appreciate your support and advice. I hadn't considered julienning. Might do the trick

My intention was to start these yesterday, by getting all the pieces rough cut. However, slight glitch, my printer ran out of ink on the second page of 17 total cut sheets. That put a slight curve in the plan. I could have run into town and bought a replacement cartridge, but chose to order them and wait. Replacement cartridge's should be here Monday. That seems so far away. Might see if I can have someone print them up for me, so I can get this build off the ground and in motion. They're not going to build themselves.

Oh my. Yes. Being a product of the '70s myself, that one definitely flew right over my head.

Ronco was the brainchild of Ron Popeil. Veg-o-matic, pocket fisherman, Mr. Microphone, you name it - he sold it.
