Has anybody tried to build a fiberglass shell? I know a lot of DIYers making car speaker cabs fairly easily (at least they make it look easy) and wonder if the same process could be used to make an ultra light and tough piano shell.

Greetings. I just noticed this request. I'll look and see if I still have the photo's. My shell holds a 61 note, 5 octave light weight synth and I use a module for the sound so it isnt scale for the typical 88 note full size piano.
If you do many gigs or move it a lot, and the audience is a bar audience or any audience actually, just go small like I do unless the piano player is really picky and somehow important. I could do any rock band gig with 2 octaves, especially after the miserable distorted guitars come in and bury the keys with the same bar cords I'd hear a 12 year old playing at Guitar Center.
I will letcha know if i still have the photo's. If not, next week when I work I'll shoot some more but these arent the greatest looking shells.
Obviously doing a great job at the gig is most important but that is never influenced by the piano shell so I'm all about the money #1, the set up and tear down being easy #2, and people's opinions surprisingly isn't even on the list. It is amazing that people still ask me how I got the piano in the room. " Hope you aren't the schlubb driving tonight scooter " . . .
