Had a brief moment of serendipity at Home Depot today- went there scrounging for "something" weather-resistant to cover the T39 (extra-large size leaf bags wouldn't fit), and stumbled across a grill cover which fit perfectly~





Disregard their dimensions, max width for the cabinet looks be 25"ish... a 26" would probably fit with a bit of coaxing.

FWIW Char-Broil part number is 7775844, model 8055... IIRC it was ~$25.

Awesome sauce! Now when the onlookers query as to the brand of gear you're running, simply look'em dead in the eye and say "Charbroil" in your best Clint Eastwood type voice.

And BTW, having had a custom cover made for a bass cab I built, I can tell you $25 is cheaper than having one custom made.

Pulling this up via the 'way-back machine, in the hope of gleaning some additional advice from the knowledge base... the underdeck T39 has been all-you-could-want-and-more, couldn't be happier with how effortlessly it fills the back yard with a blanket of smoooooth bass response.

It has, however (to be expected, I suppose) made it abundantly clear how generally meh my Klipsch AW-650s (http://www.klipsch.com/aw-650-outdoor-speaker) sound fidelity-wise; not "bad", but lacking the hi-fi quality I'd hoped for at their price point.

The deck is situated somewhat above the yard, so vertical dispersion is much less critical/important than the horizontal axis. Full range-ish response is the goal, doesn't need to yield 'sparkling' or sizzlling highs at the back fence (~150') but decently clear vocals at modest SPL would be great.

Small rectangular form factor, wide horizontal dispersion, and the horizontal orientation for under-eave mounting are drawing me toward the CurveArray iterations of the SLA... hence two questions, and any help greatly appreciated:

- am I going in the right direction, speaker-design-wise for the intended goal? and,
- are any of the approved drivers weather-resistant enough to live outside (drip-protected, but SE US humidity)?

Does anyone have a link to share, to frequency-response sweeps for any of the SLA CurveArray family?

I see the curved SLA more as a "near field" cab, designed for use on centre channel in HT and not a 150' yard. Good for maybe 15-20'.

Since the curved SLA is rectangular horizontally rather than vertical, that form factor seems to be ok for you.
Since you are already using a sub, IMO you have three options with Bills designs, the smallest footprint taken into consideration. While these are not really rectangular;
1. Jack 110 x 2
2. Otop 12 x 2
3. DR200 x 2

With a melded array for HF, all these cabs will have 120 degrees horizontal dispersion

The DR200 would be best, followed by the Otop, then the Jack...

Thanks for the reply, and food-for-thought options... I'm thinking that any of the three would be a great choice, after the divorce so I regrettably may have to get another season out of the Klipsches.

How about some half height SLA Pros? Relatively small, good sound, etc.

I have tried Otops, a Jack 12, and SLA Pros in my backyard with a T30 or a TT and had good results, however it is now my feeling that a lot of small speakers playing medium volume is better than 2 Otops playing LOUD in 2 corners of the yard. The loudness of these pro speakers makes it pretty easy to tell where the concert speakers are. Even coverage using 4 or more smaller speakers seems better to me. That being said, I am now searching for 6 good sounding small-ish outdoor speakers. Maybe some 4 driver SLA non-pros? Build the box out of durarock cement board and use marine speakers? Hmmm.

Good thought, too if the drivers can stand the weather.

I like where you are going with this, 67baja! Do a little pardge with some outdoor mastic, stucco-style, and viola! a weather resistant cabinet!

Just offering my .02, stay away from marine speakers. We'd seal the recommended ply then duratex for outdoor applications, spray seal the recommended drivers and treat the foam inside the grills.
