Well thanks chaps.
We've just had
the last of our house renovation areas carpeted, so TWO is now distracted with how good it feels and it seems the argument has passed....for the meantime.
BUT, Hatch2/Batch2 ( Campbell - age 24 ) came home today and I asked him the same question - he enlightens me that he took Japanese at school ( which now explains the girldfriends ) and "Dad - there's the proper way to say it like they do in Japan and that's.....On ( as in on ) - kyeerr. The "O" never resolves to the O as we know it - it more tapers off into the valley" ..."Trust me - I took Japanese"
Guess I'll gather more knowledge by the time he gets to age 36

This checks out, I took Spanish in high school and that sounds right.

If it's Japanese, it's OWN-KyO, (long o as in own, kyo is a single syllable with another long o) but no one ever uses Japanese pronunciation for Japanese words outside of Japan, so say it however you like. I think it's funny to hear my own accent, which I can't when listening to English.
Here's the correct pronunciation of other Japanese words. See if you can guess, then put as much local accent into your own pronunciation and laugh at the way it's been changed:
Kah Rah Tay
Kah Rah Oh Kay
Key Mo No
Poh Kay Moan

That wont work, she'd still insist that hers was more right than mine...

Well there's the problem right there. You can't win against a girl. Especially by using logic. Throw in some flavoring, like pretty colors, nice textures, and strong emotions. Then you may have a puncher's chance at winning.

True, and she's very cunning and subtle. Her insistence wouln't be an outright demand, it would purely consist of her saying the word as much as she could for weeks using her interpretation of how the word should be pronounced - just to wear me down and get me to pronounce it the way she thinks it should.
However, the definition of an expert being 'a man outa town', if some expert opinion ( like Japanese girl pronouncing it on YouTube ) comes to her attention, she'd change to that immediately.
I wouldn't change
her for all the tea in China however...

Is there a volunteer in the house that we can dress up like a Japanese girl? I'm sure there are enough camera's so we can record and upload to YouTube. Which pronunciation did you say you prefer, Harley?
