The DEQ I love. The manual, not so much. I found the FBD instructions almost useless, not telling you that if you don't set the threshold at -40dB the Learn mode won't work.

If only manuals were written by Art majors instead of geeks they would be like so:
1. Do this
2. Do this
3. Do this
4. It's done

It took me a good four hours of fiddling about to decipher how to use the DEQ, and I've got 45 years of audio engineering experience to draw on. I pity a newbie trying to deal with it.

I haven't been back here since I posted my question. Busy building cabs and playing a show this weekend. Thanks for the replies. I think I may end up rebuilding mine to the new design sometime. My old ones were the second cabs I ever built, so they were a bit messy.

I can't help but think, "it's an EQ -- how hard could it be?" Famous last words, eh? :owned:

Heh... it's four different EQs... Parametric, graphic, dynamic, and feedback destroyer... and they all operate a bit (or a bunch) differently than all the other ones.

Although, I will say it only took me about 20 minutes to get the hang of it. Then again, I'm a nerd.

I had it all wired except the fbd. I never did get that thing to work. But then again, I never had much feedback with the rig. What I had I could pretty quickly notch out.

Not used it on mine yet, but IIRC, in the manual, one thing I remember is that at least one adjustment (however minor) on PEQ needs to be made before FBD will work...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Not quite. The PEQ and FBD share the same ten filters; you can use them on one or the other, but not both. I don't see much use for the PEQ with the 31 band graphic there, so I assigned all ten filters to the FBD.

Funny that I saved so long to complete my rack with the DEQ, but often I actually leave it off. I notice that the DEQ panel gets hot after a long night, and the heat ain't coming from the Crown. If you're just running analog, it might be interesting to know that the signal will continue through it without a glitch when powered on/off. I've used results of the RTA to enter some simple corrective eq into the DCX so things sound great without it. Great to have at the press of a finger though!

I'd still like to learn how to use it more fully, especially effective use of the feedback eliminator.
