So, my wife was looking at the cabs and asked what the ball was for and I said that it's for the phase plug. Then, she asked what does it do and I said "I don't know". I'm guessing it has something to do with the mid range. Am I right? Tedward

Correct. The phase plug improves the performance and clarity of sound by deflecting/sending the midrange soundwaves forward instead of letting them bounce into each other and thus producing distortion and phase errors.

More specifically, a phase plug makes sure that the compression waves emanating from the driver all travel the same distance, therefore arriving at the listeners ear at the same time.

The long explanation

Thanks for the link CoronaOperator.

I'll start off with the mistake I made cutting the tweeters. As you can see in the photo I cut too much off. Got the calipers and calculator out and re figured. I got the saw set up to cut the right amount off. I'll have to repair the tweeter though.

All braces are glued and holes marked for drilling. I'm going to drill the holes before painting.

I decided to put handles on and realized I should have thought of that before I started the build. Some of the braces are in the way. After the holes were cut for the handles I made some splints to reattach the braces. I laid a piece of 2"wide x 3/4" thick wood on the floor, taped the back to the cab and put the input cup and screws on it towards back and balanced it on the board to find the center of gravity to locate the handles so that when I pick up the cab it will balance out.

The melded arrays are glued and drying as I write this post. For those of you who are going to build your own melded arrays make sure your cuts are spot on. It will save time gluing them together and test fit each tweeter before gluing. I had to do some sanding and trimming to get a good fit. Trust me it will look a lot cleaner when done.

Another few days and more work done. I have one cab completed and ready to check for leaks.

I was able to fix the tweeter by gluing cut off parts to it and reshaping it. Almost good as new. Next time I will order a couple extras. I used Testers cement for plastic models and not very happy with it, doesn't bond very well.

As you can see in the photos that I gave the front corners a little extra bevel so that the plastic corners would fit better and trimmed a little off of the corners themselves in order to eliminate the over hang.

All is going good so far. It' Saturday morning and I was hoping to try them out at a gig we have but I wont have enough time to finish them. Oh well, I have practice Monday night to try them out.

No air leaks but, since I went with two 1/4" and two speakons there is air leaking through the 1/4" jacks. Should I build a small isolation chamber to seal off the input cup? Tedward

if you intend to use the 1/4" jacks, Yes, should be airtight.

Also consider foam ear plugs for the 1/4" jacks. Only problem is losing them.

I think Leland also sells some 1/4" plugs for sealing them as well...

JohnP., thanks for the ear plug idea, I have lots of those around.

Also, I want to wire an on/off switch for the tweeters. I have a dpdt switch but, don't know how to wire it. Any help would be appreciated. Tedward
