It can be. I always mount the drivernd then remove before I install that panel. I've started installing the panel with the bolts fully screwed in place (minus speaker) to keep the threads clear from debris the rest of the build.

Question

How much sound is the driver supposed to make when mounted in the baffle or whatever its called. When I ran a 25 hz tones at 10v it was barely audible. Mounted I can hear it. I don't think it's rubbing but it is close. Would the baffle boars cause the 25 hz to be louder or more audible? Both alone and mounted on the boars it is in exactly the same place, face up on a padded chair.

Any help appreciated.

I'm going to leave the driver mounted in the panel and mount the panel driver installed. I do not think I would ever get the T-nuts lined up and threaded correctly otherwise.


In a related area.... It also seems that this thing is a little crazy. I get 10v out of the 300 watt O-audio amp at <5% on the volume knob. 30v at around 10%. 30v looks like X max to me. Will placing the driver in the airtight cab make it use more power to get to X max. I worry that the power range is so small I will never get it "dialed in"

I would not expect the baffle by itself to cause a notable difference in noise during the break in/ test phase.

I can put a lot more voltage on my Beta 10s after installing them in the Jack then I could before installing them. I would expect the same from your sub.

I wanted you to say yes, the thought of trimming that panel more is terrible.

I want to be done so I trimmed a little more from the baffle. I'm 99% sure it's not touching. Tried chalk and don't see any evidence other than where I touched when I sat it down. I'm gonna believe the baffle make it a little louder. Someone confirm this belief please.

I think I misunderstood your earlier post. I didn't get that you were worried about rubbing. I thought that you wanted more noise and weren't getting it. Sorry about that.

FWIW I'm pretty sure rubbing would make a notably crappy sound.

It does. That is why it is best to the driver break-in outside the cab. When you have it all assembled, try it again.

Follow the plans. Bill knows best.

You must be tired. I don't think Bill puts in any more bracing than is absolutely necessary to stop resonant wobbles of flat panels under extreme bass pressure.

Finish it up tomorrow. They wouldn't be in the plans if they weren't important.

not what I wanted to hear. I wanted Bill to say "they are for cosmetic purposes only, wanted to give you something to do with leftover wood" . Oh well I guess I can cut them tomorrow. Clamping them to the sides of the cab will be rather difficult.
