haha, very true. i went for a uni interview there a few months ago.... it doesnt quite seem to have the same kind of bass heavy scene as manchester! :D

So to start the project out appears that you cut every piece needed including the finish angle and then your going to construct?? I considered such a method as I'm about to begin 4 t30s and it seemed like a good way to go

Generally, it's not. Every plywood has it's own thickness, generally a bit off from the stated thickness. If you try to cut everything on forehand you'll find out that there will be some panels too long and some too short as that deviating thickness along with the human factor will toss everything up some.

If you really want to cut everything on forehand you could do something like this:
Take a large piece of paper/cardboard and lay it on the side of the first T30s side, on it mark out where the joint edges will be (pointed out in the plans), when you're done you'll have a marking jig that makes sure that every line on every cab will be as close to identical as possible. Now you build the first T30 following the plans but you take accurate measurements of how long the panels actually will be.
Now you have a jig and accurate measurements for the panels. This should take you through the three following cabs very quickly. Pay 110% attention to what you are doing though! If you do something wrong you will have done something wrong with three cabs instead of one.

No updates due to numerous delays and exams. The garage is currently taken over by 12 ransome's lawnmowers but should be reclaimed soon. Also there has been problems sourcing the drivers as PAP was very slow/ went down halfway thru the order. But all seems back on track so expect updates soon, I certainly haven't forgot about them.

Regarding the building process I reckon you follow the plans... I've built quite a few subs before and I always see a definite improvement each time, experience counts for a lot building speakers, especially in the all important finishing touches that really finish the speaker off.
As turntablist suggested if you wanna cut in one go, have a model mock up so you can test the cuts, if you notice in the pics there is a separate cut-out trimmed with beading and pencil lines showing the separate cuts, I used it for this very process. I suggest you make it out of thin (6mm) ply tho. If you bead all the edges it will also work as a jig for holding the parts together during construction, a fair bit of work but for 4 or more cabs deffs worthwhile.

The garage is now cleared, ready for construction and finally I've sourced some of the drivers, so after a week chopping down a field full of trees I should be good to go with these.

Its true the proof is how well my chosen driver works but if it was based on how they look the ciare would certainly be a winner. Looking forward to getting this finished now :D

the same could be said for the weight of the finished product. I swear some pro sound companies line their cabs with lead to make them heavier... christ.
Built:
2x Tuba 30s delta12lf loaded (gone)
4x Otop12 d2512 loaded
8x t48s (18, 18, 24, 24, 30, 30) 3015lf loaded
2x AT (1 mcm, 1 gto 804)
2x SLA Pro (dayton pa6, 6 goldwood piezo loaded)
1x bastard XF208

2x OT212 (delta pro 450a loaded, eminence psd)

Weight of each driver is well over 10Kg so they arn't easy to handle themselves, but the magnet is HUGE and the constrution very solid. Would be nice if they weighted as much as the deltalite 2512 in my OT12's but one cant have everthing, and I'm guessing if they did I definitely wouldn't be able to afford them. Overall the weight is something im prepared to trade for extra performance in this case. And not following the lead of some of these others, there won't be any lead going into the cabs,

I'll PM you turntable.

There is an identical driver with a neo magnet, available at thomann.de. But as I recall it's ~240euro so it's quite a bit more expensive.

I've done quite some simulating with the 12.00SW in hornresp though and even though the ferrite magnet driver is heavy as hell it will still be very competative to lighter driver thanks to the higher power handling and higher x-max.

The 4ohm version sure sounds interresting. With the 8ohm version you can put a total of 8 driver on one 2ohm stable amp but the amp would have to be able to put out at least 8000w to be able to reap the benefit of the driver and such amps are both rare and very expensive. With the 4ohm drivers you'd only need a 4000w capable amp and there are plenty of those coming now at more reasonable prices.

I'm kinda happy I have the 4r versions as I cant afford a FFA, powersoft, or MC2 to power 8 at 8r properly, an amp that can do 2k at 4r per side would work nicely with 8r speakers tho, but kinda rare.

as it is i have only a pair of crown XS1200's to power them, but I only have 4 drivers atm ill run one per side of each of the amps meaning there is 1100W availble to each driver, if I get 4 drivers more the power per driver with my amp setup would go down to 800W.

I found that driver at thomman, interesting as I have never seen it befor but surely its gotta win the award for the crappiest name ever: Ciare 12.00SWDCNDW :?

And yeh I did some sims too, it seems the extra power handleing and x-max can justify the increased weight and then some.

Finaly got some progress down today, there is a 20ft shipping container in the garden full of stuff which means 3 bays of work space for me. So i'm going to be cracking on in the next few days so hopefully they'll be finished befor long.

notice i've also painted the garage floor, definitly a good idea but stoped short of painting the walls just yet.

I also cut out the access panel's today, took ages but i got them looking pretty nice.

And the (dusty) driver im using:

Building a jig to recess the connection plate and a jig for the handle cutouts atm, but after that i should be about readdy to start assembling them. Also im gonna try the floor paint I have left over on some scrap wood to see if it beats the tuffcab stuff, should definitely be harder anyway.

Well all the time I had spare to make these suddenly got eaten up so i haven't done a huge amount since last, the first 5 panels are glued together and all the other panels are preped. Only thing left is to finish the assembly, and cut some more braces, the last set need modding and im not quite decided how im gonna do them so they are changed to support the grilles. Note the blood sweat and tears (last two didn't stain tho) put into the build as evident in the 2nd pic

Unfortunately I went to visit a freind in Manchester and as its a student place one drink lead to another and befor I know it I'm on the train back having lost my phone (probably to some disgusting pub toilet) which is also my means of taking pics so no more for the moment.
