Well, for one thing, there was no bassist!
Not officially, live Manzarek played left hand usually on a Rhodes key bass, but on record there was a bass. Listen closely to 'Light My Fire', on that there are two bass lines, one played on keys, the other on a bass.

Ok...the missing piece of the puzzle!
Still, they probably made more money than we'll ever manage with our playing that's for sure....but the lifestyle....no thanks.

That will require donning my anti-depressant armour, however you now have me intrigued - off to Limewire I go.
I have a couple of friends who are ardent Doors fans though and I respect that. We just agree they don't play Doors when I'm there and I don't play Chicago when they are here....we just drink and listen to Madonna instead....not!

Peter Cetera was undoubtably one of the most overlooked bassplayers ever. I think if you only had as influences him, Jim Fielder (BS&T) Jaco and Sir Paul you'd have all the bases pretty well covered.

We are of like mind!
Actually Peter Cetera's replacement Jason Scheff is a stunningly good player as well - if you don't have the DVD "Chicago - Live by Request 2005" then go get it. It's worth every cent and more. Scheff just "owns" the music he plays and his singing is up there with Cetera's.
Still, Cetera has some smooth subtleties in his bass playing that no one could ever match and like you, I rate him one of the best.

How far afield we have gone! I was making reference earlier to Jim Morrison's 'Strange Days' cut 'People are Strange'... (I think he was writing from his own experiences of wandering about 'under the influence' "go with what you know?")
My dad was a classical violinist/farmer (figure that one out! thanks to the Great Depression and the Dustbowl). Pop music was non-grata in the house, especially after my nephew turned me on to Iron Butterfly! Holy Expletive! Followed by Sabbath, the Who, Neil Young (clean and dirty) Jethro Tull, and Deep Purple ... and a certain Rick Wakeman. Another 'H.C.' moment was the first time I heard chamber music in an ancient church in Marseilles France. Those gothic high arched sanctuaries give the strings and woodwinds an otherworldly timbre that is hard to describe. It has a power that grabs you and cant be be duplicated with kilowatts. There's somthing to be said about a well-designed building.
There is no technical problem however complex, that cannot be solved or finessed by a direct application of brute strength and ignorance.

I'm a U.S. Guy and I'll agree! My company has a data center in York, so I get a visit every couple of years. What a place the York Minster is...just unbelievable. When they fire up that pipe organ, though...the whole place shakes.
And then there's the pubs and the local hand-drawn cask ales.... I LOOVEE York!
Im sure i'm not the only one to do this, but I got PL glue on a sweatshirt that I really like. I feel like an idiot, and need a way to get it off, any ideas?
