This morning I took 8 OT12's and 2 T48's to a larger church near me and ran sound for a special event they had. Their multipurpose room, aka, the "Celebration Center" was setup for about 800. I'd guess about 90Dx180Wx40H plus a 60'x25ft deep 3.5' tall stage.
I setup the T48's wall loaded at the back of the stage, just off to the side of the basist and drummer on a short 6" riser. Did a stack of 4 OT12 per side with only the top 3 wired. The bottom pair angled in, the middle pair aimed straight back and the top pair aimed out to cover the wings at the side.
At the board, about 12ft off the back wall, I was measuring peaks to 100-104db c weighted slow. The kick drum was thumping wonderfully and there wasn't a bad seat in the house for clarity or bass impact. It was hard to believe all the bottom end was produced by just a pair of 15's. The church is looking to upgrade their system and couldn't believe that $700 would get them into a pair of subs that could produce output like that.
There's not an event I do that I regret building these puppies at 30" wide. I've covered large auditoriums and all kinds of indoor spaces with no need for more than a pair.
T48 constant amazement.

Re: T48 constant amazement.
When placing subs properly i.e.: corner loading, wall loading etc. Are live bands subjected to any bass buildup on stage? We are careful of our stage volume/monitor clarity. I high pass all four auxes at 150 Hz to keep stage mud down. I am having a hard time believing there won't be excessive bass on stage. I have been using two DR280 with two double 18 PAS subs and will be using my new T48s for the first time in a packed small club new years.

Re: T48 constant amazement.
It works pretty well in many venues, and especially with horn subs and steep slopes. I cross my OT12's and T48's at 100Hz with a 48db/oct Linkwitz-Riley filter. That cuts bass out of the tops and highs out of the subs pretty well. I cut my WH's at 100Hz as well with the same filters. The T48's and Bill's other designs keep much of the upper harmonic distortion from exiting the subs and wall loading them helps cut that down further. There may be a lot of bass, but it's very clean and doesn't interfere too much with the clarity you need onstage. It also works very well with IEM's as it acts like a buttkicker and provides the tactile feel IEM's lack.Bobby Slaton wrote:When placing subs properly i.e.: corner loading, wall loading etc. Are live bands subjected to any bass buildup on stage? The clarity horn subs bring to the party is often a night and day difference and makes things possible that would be impractical with direct radiators.

In this scenario, did you delay the tops relative to the subs?

Who me? I've always delayed tops to subs & FOH to backline. Had DBX 260 with old SRX system now am using DCX 2496 LR48 at 80Hz. Subs high passed at 50hZ.Mark Coward wrote:In this scenario, did you delay the tops relative to the subs?
By the way Mark, I'm really jonesing over tha Axe Fx ultra. I have two POD xtlives right now. I hope you're going to tell me it's everything everyone sayes it is

Yes, the subs were about 25ft behind the tops so I delayed the mains about 20ft.Mark Coward wrote:In this scenario, did you delay the tops relative to the subs?

This makes me happy. Mine will be used in a 60x40x16 garage 95% of the time.gdougherty wrote:This morning I took 4 OT12's and 2 T48's to a larger church near me and ran sound for a special event they had. Should be massive overkill for my application.

Re: T48 constant amazement.
They should do just fine in a space that size. 2xOT12's and one T48 are all we use for mid 90db levels at my regular church.E.M. wrote:This makes me happy.
