DBX Driverack with the RTA microphone... or DCX2496?
DBX Driverack with the RTA microphone... or DCX2496?
I have an opportunity to get a DBX Driverack PA with the RTA-M microphone kit for under $300. I don't see many guys running the dbx here, so I'm just wondering if you guys think I should be patient and wait for a chance to snag a 2496 for $200 (and get a mic somewhere else) or if this seems like a solid deal.

Re: DBX Driverack with the RTA microphone... or DCX2496?
I have the DRPA and I love it. while it doesn't have as many bells and whistles as the Behringer it easily handles all of my needs for the equipment I use and the venues I play. (mostly DJ with with the occasional garage band/live sound)
There are reports both good and bad regarding the quality/reliability of the Behringer gear. I have no personal experience with the Behringer gear (aside from my little mixer) but I do know that the dbx equipment has never let me down and it seems rock solid.
Remember that you'll need both Behringer units to get the same features that the driverack has. I don't believe the DCX has the auto EQ function...(you have to add the DEQ2496 to get the RTA and auto-EQ function) but after you get both units you will have more bells and whistles than the Driverack. (brick wall limiters, 3 inputs, Dynamic EQ, longer delay time, etc...)
After assessing my needs I decided I didn't really need the extras that the Behringer offers and went with the Driverack. It's more than adequate and I still don't use all of the features on it.

I'm having so many brain farts lately, I probably shouldn't be working with power tools.
Thanks for the input.

Re: DBX Driverack with the RTA microphone... or DCX2496?
I have decided to get the dbx instead of the behringer since I wanted that had good resale value and the combo of the eq and the processor from behringer just seemed to be something more than I needed, so I opted for the dbx. I does get on my nerves that it doesnt have brick wall limiters, but it does have limiters, so unless you're driving your gear way past it's limits, the dbx limiter should do fine.
Also, I know alot of people here consider behringer to be inferior, but i have worked and own two mixer(stay away from these), 3 processors(VERY good bang for the buck), and one of their amps. All in all, for the money I paid for them I would buy them again if they were stolen and do not regret ever buying them. Except for one of the mixer that after a year of heavy gigging had a false contact on one of the sliders, everything has turned out to be just fine. But then again, I use most of their stuff I use at home(non critical) and yet I bought crow/dbx/yamaha(mixer) for live shows.

I have yet to use the limiters on my DriveRack... I set up the system gain and just let it go. No issues so far. (...then again I'm the only one using the system and I have volume control/fader discipline.SeisTres wrote: I does get on my nerves that it doesnt have brick wall limiters, but it does have limiters, so unless you're driving your gear way past it's limits, the dbx limiter should do fine.

Behringer stuff can be variable. The DCX can be good - once you have returned a few to get one that works. I have a couple of their graphics for monitors, and no probs for 2 years. My local arts centre has 3 Behringer mixers with assorted broken bits on each one. The oldest (4years) now has 4 dead channels, and 2 with non functioning gain knobs. A Producer friend of mine has one of the larger 32? channel ones in his home studio. He says its great as long as you only use less than 4 channels, otherwise the hissing becomes unbearable.SeisTres wrote:Also, I know alot of people here consider behringer to be inferior, but i have worked and own two mixer(stay away from these), 3 processors(VERY good bang for the buck), and one of their amps. +1 on DBX DRPA BTW.
