Australian version of PL pro is?

#1 Post by chrapladm »

I am trying to get ahold of a product here in Australia that is close to PL Pro.

I know that harley said there is a product in NZ that is pretty close to the same but I have emailed that company about 10x's and never get a response. I am wanting to start on SLA/THT but I still need glue. So if anyone can help please five me any suggestions.

The only thing I have seen lots of at the local "Home Depot," is liquid nails. So please someone help. :wall:

Try your local Sika re-seller of contact Sika themselves Sifaflex 295 may do the trick.

Avoid Selleys stuff like the plague!

What terrible child hood experience has sworn you off Selleys, Harley?

The Selley's liquid nails "floors and decks" and ""platinum" are the only PU glue's commonly available, in Sydney at least, with the"platinum" being in fact stronger and the "floors and decks" expanding more, and has therefore better gapfilling ability. Being Selleys they are expensive, but never as expensive as the Sika stuff.

Cant find the Sifaflex 295. I found crack filler and lots elastomeric sealants. Their website and products is a bit confusing.

I thought it would be easy to find a poly type expanding adhesive but I guess I dont know what to look for.

ok I found sikalex 295UV
http://www.sika.com.au/cmi/pdfs/TDS_Sikaflex295UV.pdf

Is this a gap filler also?

I was hoping with my lack of wood working skills that the gap filler would cure any inconsistencies I would have by being "off," by a little. Or by being able to not worry about 3-10 degree angles as much.

The answer is simple.

Shout me a plane ticket, pick me up at the airport, we'll tour some hardware stores together, find the right stuff, you take me to a decent pub, I buy the meal and drinks, you get me back to the airport and we're both happy

It was my adulthood actually....

Products that never ever lived up to their promises.

I used to run two skiing lodges for our skiing/tramping club and got talked into using Selleys stuff as it was just starting to be marketed here.

So for one season, we used the stuff. Next, shower linings started popping off the wall, nail holes in the scotia started bulging out with the paint peeling off and so the list went on.

Recently The War Office did some renovations and used a Selleys gap filler - utter disaster and we had to pick all the shit out and start again.

For my childhood - I used Vaseline

Well being that I have 4 children and going to school I cant afford any tickets for anyone.

So Harley, would the sikalex 295UV stuff work and is it a gap filler or is it expandable?

Thanks. I wish I could find the Holdfast stuff here is Australia. That stuff seems like it would be perfect PLUS I know that it works from others.

Only the folk at Sika can answer that.

I would have to see the tube and read the blurb first

Silkaflex 11FC was the answer.

Unfortunately it doesn't cure for 24 hours but none the less it will work.

It was 300ml for 16 dollars. I was going to get the 600ml sausage for 25 but I didn't know how to keep the stuff from drying out after 1 use. Never used a sausage gun before so I just stuck with the tubes. Hopefully I can find a link on here for the SLA crossovers and I should finally be able to get everything started and maybe have it all done by christmas

looking at the data sheet it says that substrate needs to be dry and there is no mention that it expands, does it expand?

Hi Harley,

I hope your arm gets better soon - ouch!

Now you have me worried. My OT15's are put together with selleys floors and decks, after I put it all together, I noticed with alarm the ease with which the foamed out glue beads can be peeled off!

I think it is over priced rubbish, and ditto about their wall fillers. I used them on cracked Gyprock joints in our lounge and kitchen, after I Vee'd them out with a stanley knife. Its not just cracked again, its actually falling out! Only AFTER the leader of the opposition had painted it all, of course!

I'll post anything I find that's OK

Cheers,

Geoff
Builds so far:
2 x 10x6" TLA's
2 x OT115's
2 x 8x4" TLA's - ~180 deg. coverage!
