I rushed my Titian39 build, the access panel suffered the most; It's far from straight.
Get two flat board and nail them to the sides, flush with the edge. (on the narrow side, as not to slip with the router) Set the router for just over a half inch (Using 1/2 board, a little oversized for the door sealant) and cut around. use a (Sharp, always sharp) chisel to get any wood missed in the corners. This is also best done with a router bit (1/2 shank, no 1/4 - they burn up too fast) that has it's guide bearing flush at the top of the bit.
I also like to bondo all the joints on the outside, and PL all the joints on the inside. No chance of air leaks here.
